What causes Immobilize to fail?
I'm in chapter 3, I just fought Non-Able and the Green Capped Martialist, and I have finally decided to ask: What makes Immobilize just not work sometimes?

To explain, in both of these fights, the bosses were standing at neutral. They weren't attacking or doing anything, in fact, they just got done attacking. I press RT + X to cast Immobilize, my mana gets used, the spell goes on cooldown, the Immobilize spell appears above their heads for a split second... but they don't even stop moving. Non-Able *immediately* leapt toward me for a kick instead of getting immobilized, and about a second after casting it on the Martialist and it not working at all, he disappeared and I had to dodge his hats for 10 seconds or so.

Immobilize has had instances where it hasn't worked before, and I thought I was doing something wrong since I was trying to activate Evanescence on them. Which, in each of those cases, I activate the spell and I do a funny flip, but I get hit in the middle of the flip I get hit because the boss wasn't actually immobilized. Each time this happened, it spent my mana and the spell went on cooldown, but I got hit because they weren't actually immobilized.

So, I figured I'd finally ask: What causes Immobilize to just not work sometimes? It only seems to happen to bosses.

Also, sometimes "seeing through" enemies doesn't work either. I perfectly triggered Lucky Strike against Non-Able, but he grabbed me while I was semi-transparent (which I assume is the invincibility state) and dealt a boatload of damage to me and interrupted my attack anyway. So he was just mashing a translucent monkey into the ground. It was pretty funny, but weird that it didn't work then, either.

Help!

A lot of later bosses have limited immunity. Yin tiger will only last 1 hit. A lot of others will have immunity during their moves. Some flat out are immune. That's why you get spellbinder in chapter 3 secret to replace it.

Move is too strong late game, you can continually spam it and get off level 4 focus attacks, hence the need to moderate it.

They all have different kinds of immunities. Some can even detect you in your cloud step xD

I mean, I get the need to moderate it, sure, it's a very powerful ability.

It just seems weird to give you a talent of which its entire purpose to give you benefits when you cast Immobilize to interrupt enemy attacks, but then it just arbitrarily and randomly does not do so.

If there were some kind of signposting or something to inform you it wouldn't work, it would feel a little more reasonable. But it feels random, because it'll work on some major bosses when they go to attack and everything works perfectly, but then on other bosses, nope, it does nothing but waste your mana and put the spell on cooldown for no benefit to the player. Without any indication that will happen, it seems like poor design when I have to use Google to find out why a tool in my kit randomly doesn't work at all due to there being no indication from the game, spellbinder or no.

I dont know what the issue is, its a game that you try and you observe, death is not punishable so that you can just try things out, something is not working then change it to something else, free reset skill tree, man

I'm running into the same issue. There's a skill specifically in the progression that allows a "perfect" Immobilize on an enemy that's attacking, but more often, it appears to fail and go on cooldown without it going off. Because I don't use Immobilize on most trash (they're weak enough to not need a costly spell), I only see it work on some bosses and fail on others.

I've had this issue numerous times. I just attribute it to bad timing or immunity. It's also happened with Pluck of Many. Goes into the animation, I'd have to dodge and I lose it. That's why I use spell cooldown with dodging and it's full in no time.
