The Journey to the West
Black Myth: Wukong is a game based on Journey to the West which is a satire about Chinese society, and Bureaucracy.

It was meant to demonstrate how Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism can coexist.

"The characters in Journey to the West represent the various faiths in China. Throughout their journey, the characters show how they are very different, yet they manage to coexist."

Sun Wukong (also known as The Monkey King), is a Taoist deity, and a Buddhist deity
Buddhism has an ideal based on "Dim" (Also known as Yugen in Japanese Buddhism) it means:

"mysterious profundity
Dim (Yūgen) means the beauty that we can feel sense into an object, even though the beauty doesn't exist in the literal sense of the word and cannot be seen directly."
This ideal is commonly interpreted as an expression in the appreciation of change, the creation and transformation of something into nothing, or nothing into something, a circular ebb and flow of life and spirituality.

According to the three traditional sacred Buddhist scriptures in the Tripitaka, sexuality can be divided into four categories: female, male, ubhatobyañjanaka and Pandaka

ubhatobyañjanaka refers to intersex or literally a person with the signs of both binary sexes/genders.

The Triptaka is a collection of Buddhist scripture beginning as early as the 1st century BCE

Another massively successful game with a story based on what would now be considered "woke" by some westerners. So glad to see the support of so many Westerners of these ideologies of co-existence, acceptance and appreciation of the now, and what the future brings.

Journey to the West can be interpreted differently at various ages and from different perspectives. This is the charm of literary works, much like how "a thousand readers have a thousand Hamlets." There are many adaptations of Journey to the West, such as the “A Chinese Odyssey” series, and the recent “Monkey King: Hero Is Back”.

Sun Wukong is known for his intelligence, liveliness, loyalty, and strong sense of justice. In popular culture, he represents wit and courage.

To me, the "Golden Circlet" (tightening spell) is increasingly seen as a form of shackle. Interpreted from this angle, wearing the headband symbolizes restraining one's inner demons to ensure the safety of oneself and others. Removing the headband represents freeing one's nature and gaining liberty.

Not sure if you like dark twists on other stories but have you heard of Soul Sacrifice? came out in 2013 for the PS Vita, and the lore entries for the various enemies were pretty good.

I got that game the day it came out, I also hated every part of it.

that story is pure evil.

lmao, same. I was stuck in the hospital and it was the only game I had time to grab in my scramble to leave my apartment, and it was a slog to play through.

I loved the lore on each of the creatures though. It was the only thing that kept me playing it. Every one of them was a hyperbolic tragedy, and it was so entertaining.

I didn't like anything about it, but inafune was always a hack.

I Really did like japan studio, and playstation signed its irrelevancy when playstation closed them right when the ps5 came out.

Fair enough, he was pretty hacky, but a lot of Japanese story telling is pretty wooden in that way to me, although it seems like certain Japanese studios have done a better job with their localization efforts to make dialogue and story flow better.
Persona, and Like a Dragon are some recent favorites of mine.

I really enjoyed some of Japan Studio games like Parappa the Rapper, Dark Cloud, and Legends of Dragoon, but looking back they released a lot of duds too.

It's a shame that the only remnant of Japan Studio is the development studio working on Astrobot.
A lot of people seem to really enjoy it, but I am not really a fan of platformers anymore, so it's just kinda meh when they had so many IP's that I would've preferred to see sequels to in the Japan Studio library.

It's unfortunate that they were unceremoniously cast aside right at the start of the current console generation, I haven't been a fan of Sony's insistence on Live Service games as of late. Buying Bungie was a huge mistake IMO.

I was able to afford some new computer parts so I haven't really been using my Playstation nearly as much, and it's almost exclusively used for VR.

I do really like the Dual Sense controller though. I use that to play PC games quite a bit.

Taoism is my favorite religion so I am loving this, and it blew away all my already high expectations.
Also, I wouldn't say this is woke. Woke isn't the diverse and inclusive thing they virtue signal it as. So much sexism and racism, judgment, division and hate comes from the Woke cult.
The woke cult in the west hate this game and did everything in their power to try and get this game canceled.

That sounds like a conspiracy theory. Most of the media that comes up for Black Myth Wukong claiming there's some Woke push back is by rage baiting grifters trying to drum up engagement since there's nothing legitimate for them to be angry over.

I disregard them just like I disregard concern trolls from IGN and Kotaku. Doesn't mean I am going to stoop to their level of identity politics just for the sake of it.

If you're referring to the posts on Steam Discussion asking for more inclusion of "DEI, Women, other representation" are literally just anti-woke trolls farming Jesters and feeding this weird narrative for said rage baiting youtube grifters.

The game is developed in China, one of the most racially homogeneous countries in the world, if you actually care about respecting other peoples cultures, and practice cultural relativism, then it's painfully obvious that this game should represent them, and their culture on their terms.

Obviously there is some localization that goes into bringing media to any foreign market, but it's always been that way. It ain't personal, it's business.

According to Journey to the West, after Sun Wukong completed his mission, the "Golden Headband" naturally disappeared. However, in the game's adaptation, the headband doesn't truly vanish. Instead, it becomes a backdoor for controlling Wukong, which can only be removed through physical death. Wukong's spirit is then collected by the "Heavenly Mandate Man" and ultimately transformed into a new Wukong.

About 18 years ago I went with my father up to Richmond Canada to spend some time learning Tai Shing Pek Kwar forms for the fist and staff from the then Grand Master Chan Sau Chung Each move is related to observations of different types of monkeys fighting styles in addition to the stories of Sun Wu Kung in Hsi Yu Chi.

Each part of the forms had symbology and meaning to them, and it was a truly incredible experience to spend a few weeks training with him as my sifu and his son my Sihing,
It's an extremely acrobatic Kung Fu style, and it was really tough, even with a background in Gymnastics.
I am grateful for the experience, I just wish I could've stayed longer and learned more.

He did give me a wax wood staff that I still use to practice the beginner and some intermediate forms, but I can't do all of the intermediate staff forms anymore unfortunately.

My father is a huge fan of Kung Fu and Chinese culture and philosophy, so I grew up learning Wing Tsun he had already been teaching under Grand Master Leung Ting for 11 years before I was born. The training was intense, but well worth the experience and opportunities it opened. Getting to meet several grand masters from the 1970's era Kung Fu movies was so damn cool, and those experiences left a permanent impression on how I view eastern and western philosophies. The Kung Fu community always felt like such a warm welcoming and inclusive family to me.
Great, I live in Vancouver now.

It seems JttW lore and this game's lore still have some inconsistency.

The devs probably just think it's cool.

you are seriously blind or just not involved with journalists and all social media platforms. The woke journalists tried to cancel this. There's so much evidence from countless articles and their posts, etc..

It's what you judgmentingly call the grifter rage baiters that fought against them. I don't know if your naive or just willfully ignorant

Also, journey to the west is not a satire and the Journey to the West does not discuss specific Buddhist teachings on sexuality, such as the categories of ubhatobyañjanaka or pandaka. The novel focuses on adventure and spiritual themes rather than detailed explorations of gender or sexuality from Buddhist doctrine.
Please don't reduce other religions with you're western woke politics.

Using a politically charged anti-woke website isn't really a good look, especially given their history of taking quotes out of context to drum up engagement.

"a poster, featuring a dumbbell, is far more pointed, with the ad stating that “fatties should f*** off”."
That's just funny. Especially since 39% of adults in the U.S. are Obese. particularly in the male demographic you have 25% normal or under weight, 40% overweight, and 35% Obese, so they are essentially telling 75% of their target audience in the U.S. that they don't want your business.
Crude but hilarious.

https://youtu.be/KIDu3ulmI6w
crude language, but it demonstrates that in the right context these kinds of jokes are hilarious. Harland Williams is an amazing Comedian.

The abridged version of thatparkplaces "journalism" could be consolidated into 2 posts, since it's all covering the same topics. A great example of how they actively use engagement rage bait.

Here's a summary of thatparkplaces "coverage"

Irrelevant outlets IGN, Kotaku, and esportsdot pretend consumers care about their identity politics. To the surprise of no one they are ignored, because everyone already knows they are hacks.

thatparkplace then goes on to pad their 7 articles about the same thing so they can be almost as irrelevant as IGN, Kotaku, and esportsdot, with a handful of anti-woke "activists" claiming a victory over something no one with half a brain cares about while sending death threats and threats of SA to a creative writing drop out working at IGN.

Anti-Wokes should do what every other normal person does and ignore hacks trying to use engagement bait, and just buy things based on whether or not it looks like fun.

We live in a capitalist society in the West. The only thing that truly matters is money.
Woke or anti-woke identity politics have absolutely no impact on the success or failure of a game.

"pubity
“Black Myth: Wukong,” hailed as China’s first AAA game, broke Steam’s concurrent player record for a single-player title, surpassing “Cyberpunk 2077” with 2,223,179 players. 🎮

The game, based on the 16th-century novel Journey to the West, saw 88% of its players from China."

Further proof that anti-wokes had 0 impact on the success of Black Myth: Wukong, but decided to inject their identity politics into the situation anyways.

A portion of people have always been offended by trivial garbage, they are supposed to be ignored, you're not supposed to become them yourself, it's like cutting off your nose to spite your face.
