during the game, it was hinted red child was a result of an affair between fire mountain earth god and princess iron fan.
in the obsession, it reveals that red child isnt the result of her affairs or the child giving rivers... apparently if anyone discover who red child's father is would bring ruin to her and king bull... in mandrin there are hints that it might be the result of a rape as according to princess iron fan in mandrin, the child was forced upon her and king bull is aware but pretend to not know.
it was never explain clearly and probably will never be. it's just one of the thing that we have to accept.
to make it more confusing, red child was taken from princess iron fan and king bull by guan yin and transform into golden child, severing all ties with his family... so i dont know why red child returns in this game.
Okay, I thought Mount Lignshan was a Mountain (What's the plot and what does a mountain want?). Who's Guan Yin? Everyone has multiple names. Is Yin the Dao fish boss?
My wife is Chinese and even she doesn't know what's going on.
At the secret birth scene? Cause She says in the cartoon she was FORCED to drnik.
Guan Yin is the goddess of kindness, she is the reason why Monk Tang accept Wukong as disciple as she took a pity to Wukong who been sealed under a mountain by Buddha for over 500 years.
she also the one who gives Wukong his golden headband which basically a shock collar so he doesnt go out of control.
you actually has seen Guan Yin in the end of chapter 1, she is the one the black bear refer to as master.
yes in the secret birth scene.. in mandin, it tell a slightly different story to the english as a lot of chinese word doesnt have 1 to 1 translation to english, so the meaning of the story also changes.
In the game, they implied Lingshan Mount wiped asura clan. Red boy has Asura King's DNA or someshit, Celestial Court forced Iron Fan Lady drank water from magical river to give bird to red boy whom in time would become Asura King.
What's Celestial Court's plan? I don't know but the game implies Celestial Court and Lingshan Mount (or Taoism & Buddhism) have conflict.
Based on English version of the game:
Red Boy is the last Prince of Yaksha, an-anti Buddha race. The Yaksha King witnessing his son died as the last of the the Yaksha, agreed to Taishang Laojun, the highest Dao/Taoist figure, to offer his (king) life to save his son. Taishang Laojun then turned the dead Prince into the red flower and basically force his disciple Rakshasi to bear this boy again to life via drinking from the Child Bearing river. This is in his words to show the Celestial Court the disgusting crime that Buddhism did.
The Earth God is the other Disciple of Laojun, who was ordered to descend to help Rakshasi in carrying out this plot but fell in love with his fellow disciple Rakshasi. The Bull King was vaguely aware of this but he still accepts and treats Red Boy as his son. However upon discovering this truth Red Boy wanted revenge for his people, the Yaksha, hence Chapter 5.
In truth, someone wants to plot the Eastern Heaven (Celestial Court) against Western Heaven (Buddhism). Wukong and company are just pawns in their game.
Why Taishang Laojun? Because it's heavily implied that this person is the Highest Taoist authority, and he makes pills (Rakshasi and Earth God both attend the pill furnace when they first met). He's also the same person who gave the Monster Egg to infect the previous Dawnstar (who's a Son of Pilanpo Bodhisattva) and Duskveil was born from his corpse. Pilanpo herself is likely dead or worse, because her Golden Needle was given to Hundred-eyed Taoist Master and there are two of her hands in game, you even fought one as a Yao Guai. It's attached to a Yao Guai, the Buddha's Right Hand.
Probably the same reason erlang never transform into Radiant Lion Erlang... because it actually isn't Erlang at all. There are several hints in chapter 2 3 and 5 that something happened to the heavenly court, and originally gs wanted a 13 chapter game, and apparently the expansion will be at least three chapters worth of material.
Besides having to look up the names this is the most coherent story of Wukong I've ever read.
I didn't even realize there were two different religions intermingling. I thought it was all just one pantheon. They really need to distinguish them for western audiences. Like Aesid and Vanir. Or Titans and gods.
The thing is it's actually two different religions originating from two different countries of vast distant. Buddhism originating from India and a long way from China through the Silk Road (the very same Journey to the West). Taoist and Folklore (Celestial Court) are native to China. It gets even more complicated as Taoist originating from Taoism, which is a philosophy/school of thought and was not religious, in the same line as Confucianism.
Representing the East Heaven is the Celestial Court, with The Three Pure one as supreme beings of Dao/Tao and Taisheng Laojun/Daode Tianzun is one of the three. The other are Yuanshi Tianzun and Lingbao Tianzun. Yuanshi Tianzun is the predecessor to the Jade Emperor, so even the Jade Emperor is beneath him. So far in the English version it's pointing out the Master of Hundred Eyes Daoist Master and the Master of Princess Rakshasi/Fire Mountain Earth God are one and the same, and it is Taisheng Laojun/Daode Tianzun because of pill making and general medicine background. It's also implied that someone very high up in the Celestial Court is pulling the strings, but most of the victims are related to Buddhism (Western Heaven) so far: Dawnstar, Pilanpo Bodhisattva, Ling Ji Bodhisattva, Black Bear (Guan Yin Bodhisattva's apprentice), Yellow Brow (Buddha's apprentice), Tang Sanzang (Wukong's Buddhist master and Buddha's apprentice, who is forced into hiding after Wukong's death).
