How do I get the wandering wight spirit?

I finally beat the wandering wight, and when he died he dropped this blue spirit orb, but when I tried to interact with it the game said "Unable to collect spirits until receiving guidance" I thought I was supposed to go back to the shrine and talk to the guy that's been guiding me, but there was no option and when I returned to the arena the soul was gone. I've seen what this ability is, and I'm worried that I did something wrong, because I read that this boss is apparently easy to miss and cannot be fought again if you do, so I figured I should double check that I didn't screw anything up before moving on

Just keep progressing. You will eventually meet an NPC.

The NPC will train you when you meet him and you will have the opportunity to get every spirit ffrom then on including Wight

once you get the ability to consume spirits with your gourd you can collect any that you might have missed at any shrine. You'll see an option for it if you didn't pick one up. You'll get it!

just keep going, soon you will meet an NPC teaches you how to collect. and after that you don need to run back all the way, you will be able to collect all the spirit at Keeper's Shrine once you beat it.
