Question about Erlang Shen
Hello Guys,

I watched some video guide how to kill him and and pretty much says about take off the shield first before it does damage to his health. Is that right ?

I watch also one YT video that he damage Erlang Shen health without taking off the bar above his hp ( shield) on phase 3 and he damage it pretty good, Is that possible too ?

I am asking because I will be fighting him soon

Thanks a lot and any tip appreciated. I heard he is tough

Big charged hits will do decent damage regardless though tough to pull off. But other than that yeah that shield does enormous dmg reduction. Still can chip him but to do real damage it's charged and/or charged varied combos, or remove the shield entirely.

The video I watch was using normal attack. I was curious because somehow the hp keep going down per light attack while full shield on. He had that needle relics on, you think that's why ?

I watched it again : I noticed the shield go down a bit then go up but the hp keep going down started from Phase 2, almost like the stamina when we use it lol . The Phase jump to 3 without shield going down because the hp is down to where the phase 3 will start then the shield go down again a little and go up then hp keep going down but not the shield until boss defeated its bug maybe ?

And thank you

in your first playthrough, use the fan to break the shield. As soon as it breaks hit him with three focus hit, then some normal hits, when he starts to counter, hit him with immobolize and hit him with another 3 focus hit. Alternaitv, war the upgrades golden armor (the one you can find in chapter 6 in a chest). Critical hits will increase your Qi regeneration, addtionally use the drink which also recovers Qi. By that you can use the fan in that fight, 3-4 times.

Use the pill let revices you when you die (in a good attempt only), also the one which increases the chance of critical hit and crit damage. Use the soak which refills your gourd when ressurcted. By that you actually can't fail.

Sime tips- if u play patiend, u can use transformations also. The shield guy from CH 5 as Spirit trolls his weaker attacks, leaving hin staggered and opportunity for u to attack.
Sage and Erlang both are very weak against Yello Loong- last 20% Imelted away with Yellow Loong while being 15% myself;)

1. Get the Fan vessel from Chapter 5. This does a lot of damage to that shield and is there for that fight. Use it the moment the fight starts.

2. Do most of Chapter 6 first. The gear Gold Suozi Armor, Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Bracers, and Lotus Silk Cloudtreaders will help quite a lot. As will the weapon Jingubang that you get after. You have to get this equipment no matter what anyway. I know I left out the Golden Feng-Tail Crown. There's a reason for that.

3. Make sure you have killed all the frog bosses. Again including the one in Chapter 6. This spirit when fully upgraded is insane. Not only due to the damage and bane it inflicts. But also because of the Celestial Birthstone Fragment it drops. Which ignores all enemy resistances.

4. Go to Chapter 3. Farm the Treasure Trove Demon for the Skull of Turtle Treasure. This Moderately increases the chance of obtaining materials upon killing an enemy. Use it for the next point.

5. Now again, in Chapter 3. Go farm the Blind Monks until they drop the headgear See No Evil. This gives the unique effect "More easily triggers Perfect Dodge".

6. Make sure you have unlocked the third curio slot from beating Yin Tiger.

7. You should already have the Jade Moon Rabbit. Now go grab the Gold Sun Crow from Purple Cloud Mountain, Valley of Blooms Shrine.

8. I'd recommend taking the spell Immobilize. When you've used this, You might want to spam Mobile Spin. The damage isn't great, but it will build up focus insanely fast. Just make sure you have all five upgrades for it.

9. Keep in mind, he can sidestep your heavy charged attacks. You also don't want to leave yourself vulnerable while manually charging. With the weapon Jingubang I mentioned earlier, your 4th Focus Point will stop depleting over time.

10. If you have Deadly Dance from the Staff Stances/Thrust Stance. Use this when you have all 4 Focus Points.

11. Sometimes during the fight, he'll go out of reach and start throwing projectiles. This is always followed by a hard hitting attack. Staff Spin the projectiles and then dodge. If you're struggling with that, and want to just tank the last hit. Grab Gale's Blessing from the Staff Stances/Pillar Stance. It's never mentioned in game, and I've yet to see anyone else mention it online. But Sweeping Gale deflects projectiles just like staff spin. But with Gale's Blessing it provides Damage Reduction too.

12. If you use a transformation, go with a fast one. I recommend Golden Lining from Yellow Loong for the immunity to Shock. As well as the ability to see through.

13. If you're still struggling. Go farm Mind Cores. Equip the Skull of Turtle Treasure, as well as the Golden Carp from the Yellow Loong boss fight. Then head to Furnace Valley, Valley Entrance Shrine. Equip the Fire Mantle vessel. Then from that shrine, head all the way up and into the Rakshasa Palace. Farming the Shielded Yakshas that are on the way.

Hope this helps. I tried to go into as much detail as possible. Just for anyone in the future who might also be stuck.

I found out in NG+ that using fire ring is much more consitent, didnt use it at all in NG.
Imoobilize might or might not work on enemies.
Fire ring ALWAYS replenishes life + Focus.
