One check point at the start of Chapter 2?

Just a question as I have kinda wandered around in circles for awhile in chapter two and only see one check point. My guess is I have to beat the two bosses in that open area before progressing further into chapter two? I think I have explored everything and didn't really find much loot or anything but end up too low on mana by the time i actually get to the boss so am debating just fighting and moving on. Is this a main point to get by then further chapter two rest and upgrade areas will open up?

After the ratking and son boss is a shrine. Other than that.. only the sandvillage shrine. You can run straight to the boss without fighting something tho.

it's behind the woodgate right of the area where the 2 headed rats roam.

Thanks yeah I just went to the boss thinking it would be much more difficult than it was haha. I spent too much time running around in circles thinking it would have other paths or mini bosses.
