Don't really get it...

I'm not a huge souls fanboy. I do enjoy souls-like games, but mostly I enjoy choosing from various weapons and builds to use etc. This game has staff, staff, or staff. Seems to have more in common with a hack and slash. Monkey Ninja Gaiden. And other than timing your dodge, there doesn't seem much to combat beyond that at all.

I mean, it's not a terrible game. But I really just fail to see why the reviews are as overwhelmingly positive as they are. I've killed about 3 bosses so far, and quite frankly I'm getting bored already.

The first chapter of the game doesn't really do the game justice. But, it sounds like it's just not for you.

If you are bored by fighting bosses this game really isnt for you. Also there are 2 spears which have a slightly different light attack animation. I dont understand how you get the impression that this game is some rpg with tons of different weapons like the the souls games, lotf or something.

There are tons of reviews, videos etc by now to inform yourself what this game is.

Wukong is an action game not a souls-like. This game is a lot more similar to Bayonetta or DMC than Dark Souls or similar style of game. There is also a spear later in the game with dedicated move set.

The game's combo system is nowhere as deep as Bayonetta or DMC. It is closest to modern God of War. Just putting this out there to temper people's expectation.

Well I'm glad to hear there is at least one other weapon than just a staff. I didn't expect magic or open world or anything like that. But a game with only one or two weapon types. I would expect a sword, or other martial arts style weapons too. And killing bosses is fun, if it's one facet of several. And it's much less fun if there's only really one or two move sets to use. I just don't get the kool-aid everyone is drinking. I've seen and played far better, many times.

It is indeed nowhere near the hype or praise it gets, and in no way compares to any game that it is compared to. It's not From Software, it's not Santa Monica, it's not Capcom, it's not Platinum Games. It is not GOTY material as all the noise might make you think. But it's still a solid game at its core with wonderful presentation of the story it's based on. Do enjoy it for what it is.

This game is akin to sekiro, in the sense of where you play a specific character with a specific weapon.

There are builds with various types of staves and some spears, but you're playing wukong, so it's gonna staff fighting and spells.

That said, transformations have other weapon types, from 2h swords to whip.

While there may not be the build variation of a souls-like such as Elden Ring, where you have more options right at the start as far as what class you start as, there is actually quite a varied way to build your character and the options get more varied obviously as you unlock more options.

The fact you can respec for free gives you a lot of options to have very different builds on a single play-through. I did respec for a few bosses but I mostly found a style that works for me so I built around it.

I would say this game has more options than Sekiro, less than Elden Ring and I am okay with that. If you don't like it OP, you don't have to so maybe just move on and play something you prefer.

A lot of chinese people are proud of the game because it's based on journey to the west which is quite huge there, america doesnt really have any mythology besides blue haired block faces running amok and mostly just history full of racism and war nobody could really be proud of. A game without p2w, gasha or other mobile garbage that is actually quite good and AAA lvl also is very rare in china. I know mihoyo killed a lot of brains and wallets.

Is it so hard to believe that a lot of people are proud of that and have fun with the game ? I dont think so. Sure it's not perfect.. but it good. Well optimized (at least on my rig), looks good, plays well, has tons of unique bosses (gow 1 had how many trolls again).

As someone who really likes the art of the bo stick I surely love that we finally have a game focused on that. What did we have in the gaming industry there before this game ? Kilik in soul calibur lol.

If I had less hours I would have simply refunded it. So yes. Maybe I'll get bored and put more hours in and something might change. But I doubt it.

Oh well, opinion dismissed outright in that case. This game is so massive and has so much to offer and you are barely out of the tutorial at less than 10 hours in the game.

this is such a horrible take lol if you cant determine if a game is good or bad or not for you with in the first hour of playing then you need to re evaluate how you approach gaming .

Lies , this game is way "Souls" adjacent than it is to DMC or bayo , you can spam random attacks and wreck ♥♥♥♥ in DMC/ hack and slash games . in this you have to wait for animation frames to play out and will get punished for spamming it even has none combat mechanics closer "souls-like" games .

This inst even close to GoW that was a way more narrative driven game than this both in story telling and gameplay .

People need to stop the cap and misleading others

If anything is a "Soul's-Lite" game its not as punishing as ER but its still no Cake walk ?

Would you say Wui Kong is easier than sekiro ? or harder than Demon Souls ? genuinely curious.
