Armor and staff suggestions (minor spoilers)

Hello. I wanted to ask, which armor and staff should I focus on. I have just started chapter 5 and when it comes to armor, I have two candidates that fit me the best. Option one is Iron Tough Armor and option two is to fully upgrade the Pilgrim set. I like the bonuses on both these armors but once I get to chapter 6 I am fully prepared to swap for Wukong armor. As far as staff is concerned, right now Im using the Spider Celestial staff but I have the option to upgrade to Golden Loong staff. I have not done so simply because I almost exclusively use the smash stance but during chapter 4 I have discovered that, strong as it is, I tend to miss with the attacks and that is not fun. During chapter 1-3 I did not really have any major problems but in chapter 4 I got aggressively humbeled by two bosses (Yellow Loong and Scorpionlord), this prompted me to really start paying attention to the gear. However I tend to be very stingy with materials in games and refuse to use them and instead horde them (its a problem I know), so I really wannabe sure before I commit to crafting/upgrading. But once again, when I get to chapter 6 I tend to switch to a full Wukong set, so which staff/armor would you recommend in the meantime? Thanks.
