Inexperienced player contemplating refund
Some imput required here from people who know these kind of games better than I do.

I never played Dark Souls, Elder Ring or anything like that. Just got this game, because of the hype, story and looks...

I have just beaten that first dude with the flaming sword (Guangzhi) - as the huge baby guy with the big head (Wandering Wight) was giving me hell and I reached the 2h refund period now. Can't deny I had some fun until here but considering my struggle - should I go further or rather get my 60 bucks back, when I am this bad?

The Wight isn't supposed to be fought early.
You only have to kill it before ringing 3 bells. That means broadly around the White Noble.

Do you want to push yourself or do you want to give up before even trying?
Only you can answer this question.

Everybody struggles on the first bosses. They are pretty much the tutorial to make you learn how to dodge and use your abilities.

Wandering Wight is a pain in the ass early on. I skipped him after I killed nearby boss on 2nd try. There is no issue with skipping some of the optional content even if there is a risk you might miss on the spirit from the wight--my game bugged and he despawned and never returned after I went to secret area in chapter 1.

Difficulty definitely picks up in later chapters but you are also getting more powerful as you level up. There are absolutely more challenging bosses ahead but they are all manageable. This is not super hard game but you need to use most, if not all, tools given to you to have a good time.

I do not think the story is what keeps the game afloat, it is the combat and the challenge of beating many bosses along the way.

Did you have fun? Were you able to learn from your loses and adjust your play? Do you find the combat, skills and gear engaging?

If you have all 'yes' to above questions, I would say keep the game and keep playing. You might find out that action adventure games are your thing or even maybe be encouraged to try souls-like games in the future. If you have more 'no' than 'yes' answers, this is probably not a game for you.

The big-header is a bit of a bump on the road difficulty wise, so not beating him right away is not a sign that you will not be able to finish the game. For example, I did kill him as the 1st boss with a dozen retries, but then afterwards it was much easier and most bosses did not take many tries or even did not score at all.

Anyhow, since you are outside of the refund window - can as well give it a try.

Thank you guys for your input.

Certainly yes for all the above. I experimented a bit with the siklltree thanks to the free reset.
Learned to refrain from button mashing and observe the attack patterns to time my dodging.
All I dislike about the game really is the camera sometimes which glitched into objects at some points.

Next question would be... does thes Deluxe DLC actually make the game a bit easier early on thanks to the gear it includes? When keeping the game 10 bucks don't really make a difference anymore.

Not a bug. The Wandering Wight disappears as soon as you ring the third bell.

He's entirely optional, you don't have to fight him.

Bit over 2h usually isn't a problem. I talk from personal experience.

He makes the game easier later as he gives passive defense.

The deluxe edition armor is good early on since it helps give you more gold. It does get replaced pretty early on. It's only use after the first few bosses in Chapter 1, is to grind Will for upgrades.

But I can revisit him later, no?

I got an heirloom that does that, as well as using pills to boost my defense. My gourd also gives me temporary damage reduction.

Until you ring that 3rd bell, yes.
After the 3rd bell, he's gone.

Consider redoing the Serpent Trail several times to level up a bit. It helps.

Black Myth Wukong is challenging but it is a lot more forgiving than Dark Souls, Elden Rings and Sekiro. If you keep at it you will eventually master the mechanics. Also you should try using the spells and transformations and don't just use melee attacks.

I considered the return window as well and I am glad that I decided to keep the game. The satisfaction you get when finally making progress and beat bosses is great and overall this is a good example of a 2024 Feature Complete game that is just really engaging. Honestly, it sounds like you are doing just fine so far. I totally had to keep returning to that optional boss as I didnt' know it was optional. If you are enjoying the game then I don't see a reason to return it because there are just not many complaints people have overall to really want to return it. I don't like the input delay of the latency from UE5 and frame gen and I don't like the invisible walls that are everywhere. But the pros far outweigh the cons. I would say if you aren't having performance issues then this game is a keeper.

I am lucky to have high end systems and when I tried the game on max settings but without DLSS and frame gen, my experience was vastly different than what the latest Nvidia cards are able to offer.
