If this is Chinese folklore, why are voice actors British?

I don't get it.

Ghost of Tsushima had Asians doing the English voices, which makes sense.

I don't get it for this game why white British. It's jarring.

My best guess are two guesses. One is that the 80s Monkey TV series, despite being Japanese, was popular among Brits and Aussies when it was translated in English; The English dubbed version of Monkey had a British voice cast. As such, having them being voiced by British Asian actors might be homage to the old Monkey TV series.

Another reason is how common Chinese films and TV shows were dubbed in English during the 70s to the 90s. Such a thing was common back then because Hong Kong was a British colony; anime for the Asian market was also dubbed with a British cast in Hong Kong during the 80s and 90s. Because of Hong Kong was a British colony and Game Science is headquartered in Shenzhen, which borders Hong Kong, it is quite possible that there are Chinese entertainment companies in HK that still have ties with voice recording studios in the U.K. It certainly makes more sense for Game Science to go use a British cast than going overseas to the US to use an American cast.

Also, the main English cast for Wukong seems to be voiced by Asian European actors. Wukong is voiced by Mark Ota, who also voiced Ryunosuke Naruhodo in The Great Ace Attorney and Andrew Koji who did some movies recently. Despite Ota and Koji both being half-white, they are both half-Asians.

Play the game in chinese if you're that picky on chinese folklore. English subs localization is excellent.

Unless it's a troll post, I really don't understand what crosses your mind. Maybe it's some DEI consideration and me being too old to catching it. No, I definitely don't get it.

It's when I got to Chapter 2 I was taken aback by Tiger accent, and so asked if others felt same. A white Brit accent, I wasn't expecting it in Ancient China. I DIDN'T have this issue with Ghost for example though could tell were Western Asians... .
