If this is Chinese folklore, why are voice actors British?
Anyone else wondering?

I don't get it.

Ghost of Tsushima had Asians doing the English voices, which makes sense.

I don't get it for this game why white British. It's jarring.

Probably because it's the first game of this studio, it's not an AAA game that costs millions upon millions.

why would the accent matter? just curious.

I mean it's chinese myth and I assume a foreign voice acting would always sound somewhat weird, no matter the accent.

They could very well just want you focusing on what's being said rather than "Haha, monke have kung fu movie voice." or anything else. They could have just said, "Oh, that guy's got a good voice, and we don't care about western sensitivity."

Because that's what FromSoft do and this is clearly inspired by their work.
Mutharex - Allkeyshop Aug 25, 2024 @ 10:51am
Maybe because the dubbed part is for the western audience and they rather have someone who speaks properly english than someone with a strong accent? You wanted the cheesiy dubbing from old kung fu movies??

Sun Wukong originated from India, and India is former British colony.

you're absolutely right. Ghost of Tsushima is made by Sucker punch and their mean headquarters is in the Washington, united states. They also have sony money to hire voice actor from overseas to do their japense voice work. I doubt a 3rd party self published studio would have money to find overseas voice work cheap.

What's funnier is that if you speak on the phone with an indian/pakistani/black guy born in UK, they sound...British. I had an Indian colleague from Manchestern that sounded like all mancurians and a Bangladeshi one from London that sounded cockney

It includes Chinese voice, English is a dub and British accents are fitting for the theme.
