Avoiding controversy

There's a lot of controversy surrounding this game with many journalists calling for boycotting and even pirating Wukong due to many diversity complaints. I don't understand why Game Science didn't just incorporate pronouns at the start of the game like many other modern games. The devs could have avoided a lot of the negative sentiments and headaches. Seems like an unforced error on Game Science's part.

Is there? Have you read every single article around the game? Because metacritic at least seems to say otherwise, has a high score and other than the usual suspects like Kotaku or Gamerant or IGN most dont even mention diversity.
