Healing button should be more responsive
During boss fights, the healing button feels like it does not react fast enough, like I literally have to mash it for my monkey to heal. Anyone else experiencing this?

The game doesn't have input buffering like a FromSoft game, so you're probably hitting it too early while you're still coming out of a recovery animation from being hit; or from attacking, etc.
Pills are for me. I would press it three to four time before its actually consumed.
One of the criticisms I have for this game is... no animation canceling. When I press the heal button I want to HEAL, like "NOW"... and not wait 10 seconds (I exaggerate) before some animation finishes. Same with dodge... that dodge does not and cannot cancel your current attack animation is something I do not like at all. You can get used to it of course. At the end of the day the game wants you to stop mashing buttons and to approach certain enemies carefully and to think before you attack... retreat between attacks, consume medicine or gourd, use the immobilze spell to cast other spells you can easily get canceled out of if hit (or use the gourd)... go in again. Still, a dodge that just works when you press the key would be nice to have, as well as healing that heals you much more quickly,
I do use the brew that at least will heal you no matter what (you can't be interrupted anymore). There is a gourd that says it speeds up the drinking process, have not tried it yet, it does not heal as much as other gourds and being in chapter 5 I have become used to the long, long time it takes to heal yourself.

But the number of times I pressed "dodge" or "heal" or tried to take a pill and Wukong just won't and then dies is far too high.

This game needs animation canceling in my opinion. I do not want to waste immobilize by healing or casting other spells, wasting an opportunity to do damage. But you can get used to the mechanics in this game.

Just remember: think before you mash buttons, retreat to a safer distance between attacks so you can heal up or cast spells that you can be canceled out of, if need be use immobilize so you can do all these things. It's apparent the devs want you to do it this way. I would prefer animation canceling at least for dodge though.

Getting staggerd or knocked down and having to waiting for animations to finish before you can do anything is my biggest gripe with the game. And bosses constantly running away or resisting your abilities makes it really annoying.
Yeah pretty much the truth
1000% this. Noticed something similar in Lies of P (different button on controller, so not a controller issue). You look like you’ve completed your roll animation for almost a full second or so, but haven’t and thus heal doesn’t register. It’s gotten me killed a few times now.
I lose all of my HP just trying to use one pill during the fight. I can see on my screen that the input is showing that I'm trying to use the pill, but Wukong won’t use it, whether I’m standing still or running. It’s frustrating as f!!! I’ve lost so many fights just because of this. And yeah, healing doesn’t work either.
yeah the pills are far worse
probably because other action is not finished (such as recovery from fall)
yeah you gotta time stuff although I do notice instances where the boss is in some animation and I can't heal or use pills and it seems like a bug. If I have two keys pressed (mouse and keyboard) at the same time like when moving diagonally seems like heals and pills don't respond.

Over all if it was super quick to heal or use pills that would effect the difficulty.
