Small farming experiment.

I've passed the point where you can fight that rock monster (Shigandang).
If spawn on the shine next to it and I loop killing the two warriors and the boulder-head, I get one level in about 7.5 minutes. (Got 8 in one hour). The main advantage is that mobs are close and resting is faster than using the item to teleport back.

I've tried the famous Snake Trail and it takes about 11 minutes to get a level: mobs are on a wider area and going back is faster using the teleport stone.

The winner is clear.

Side note: if you don't like farming, move along. This thread is not for you. If you think it makes the game easier, just play at level one and have fun with it.
