Are Westerners getting angry and jealous because the Chinese starts to show signs of surpassing them?
Unlike Elden Ring which used Western culture as its artistic foundation, this game is all about Chinese culture, and it is standing so strongly. It is a minor hit at Westerners' illusion of their cultural superiority, which cause them to feel very uncomfortable. Thoughts on this?

We just downgrade games according to the wants of a fickle audience that doesn't buy games. They will talk and virtue signal their purity for liking politically correct games, then they release and they die. But the people just move to virtue signal about the next thing.

Asia is the new powerhouse of gaming if they just ignore the DEI money and ESG ratings.

After shoveling out thousands of mobile games to make a quick buck, its about time something of actual value came out. I welcome it...

No this westerner is rather enjoying it. The weird political crap like this is just on the forum, the games pretty enjoyable actually.

It is interesting to note that Japanese video game devs do not seem to like to make games based on their own mythology. Okami being one of the rare examples. However, I love Okami. They tend to branch out to Norse/Celtic and other adjacent mythologies instead of utilizing their own.

Stop relying Unreal Engine and maybe then I'll be more impressed. Game is mechanically well done, but it runs like I -gross joke redacted-

Nah it's steam: full of jester awards farmers, trolls, people with serious issues that get off by being nasty behind anonimity... it's the same for every new game, wherever they are made

People will always find reason to hate on something. Confirmation bias is hell of a thing, they've already made up their mind before giving it a chance.

That's assuming they're not just farming for points. Saying the dumbest or most antagonizing thing without being banned for some 300 point clowns.

It happens to just about every game. Only difference here is there is a particularly large echo chamber about China due existing to cultural and political bias.

Nah, I think Kazakhstan puts China and the Western Hemisphere into their place.

Japan has always been fascinated by western culture, as westerners have been by japanese culture. When they dropped the shogunate, the emperor based the new government system on Germany's Kaiserate and if you check late 19th century (and later) photos you'll see a lot of them wearing western clothing, especially during the Meii period

KEK chiniese mythology is cool.
That the diversity the wokies should champion but it doesn't push their hegemonic views on the world so they whine to the high heaven.

I think whoever you're referring to are a ridiculously tiny minority of people and not really "Westerners" as a whole. For some reason, steam forums have become a hotbed where all the people who want to rage about political crap come to, but it's stuff that the vast majority of people don't care about. And then even more reactionary trolls come in to be contrarian, but again, it's such a tiny minority of people.

I think it's more than a minor hit based on the seething in these forums. They're probably having nightmares of Xi having his way with their sisters after the release of this game. Rent free

idk bro, i think it's mostly the difficulty, people are bad at the game and so they find reasons to say sh*t about it, that's all!

but on what you are saying, i do recognise china as a fascinating culture and people.

also, this game is my true "elden ring". when elden ring first came out i was so f*kn hyped having played all 3 darksouls and sekiro, and then it was such a huge dissapointment for me, it had zero f*kn vibe,, zero atmosphere everything seemed so pointless and unimportant, you could just go anywhere ad do anything without any real obstacles. also i sucked at it, but i also sucked at DS and sekiro at first it's just that elden ring wasn't fun or interesting enough for me to want to git gud.

meanwhile, wukong comes along and my god... what a masterpiece, albeit a lil bit too easy, but still such a work of art! it is the game that i wanted elden ring to be: full of wonder, fascination, mistery, atmosphere, fun!

I used to watch the Monkey TV series about 40 years ago (in the UK) which i believe is based on Journey to the West(?). When I saw this game, I was instantly interested. China seems to have a broad and fascinating culture. We now mostly just see what our media wants us to know about it tho. Not jealous, would casually like to see more.
