"Cannot gather spirit orb without guidance"

I got this message after I beat an early side game boss (I don't know the name but had a big blue head). A boss just before the first main boss that looks like a big werewolf. I couldn't grab the blue orb and had no idea what "guidance" meant? After I rested it had disappeared. What is the spirit orb and did I get the item when I hit a rest area or am I missing something that allows me to pick them up? Very confused on that.

don't worry about it. it won't be long before you encounter an npc that will give you the "guidance". you'll then be able to pick up the spirit at the shrine after that

i got confused about that too, but it gets explained a few min later in to the game and you can also redeem the spirit slighty later aswell from the shrine/bonfire
