Most of the people saying
NO EXPLORATION!!!
TOO LINEAR!!!
are simply trolls.
I do very much wish it had a mini-map and map though...
I'd say it's not linear at all. I've played A LOT of linear games. There are parts that are relatively linear, but there's also quite a bit of exploration. And heck in chapter 2 it's really pretty damn big. Tons of places to go, tons of routes to take.
Heck I ended up on the other side of a boss door. I couldn't open because I had to get there from the other side. I found a new area, decided to warp back and still had over 10 different places to go and even still have a few unexplored branches. I try to find an end to them, but I haven't so far.
It's not as open as Dark Souls 1 and not quite open world, but it's less linear than most action games. Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, etc... it's less linear than all of them.
Of course I'm not that far in the game yet. But I was expecting something about as linear as Lies of P with all of the 'boss rush game' and 'very linear' impressions and comments from reviewers and posters, but that doesn't quite seem to be the case. Though the game can be fairly restrictive when you want to grind some levels early on. Perhaps maybe that will be the case at later points as well.
The fact remains that every successful game attracts tons of trolls.
The liberal use of invisible walls all over the place and no map/mini-map...
Otherwise I have nothing but good things to say about this game.
I do agree about the invisible walls though. That's one of the first things I noticed. It's not consistent with where they let you go and where they don't let you go. Where you can jump off and where you cannot jump off.
