This game isn't half as linear as people are saying.
It's far less linear than games like Lies of P and Dark Souls 3 so far. The first chapter is relatively linear, but even there you already have more choice on where to go than you have in Lies of P. And I'm in chapter 2 now and I just keep finding new places, new spots, new bosses, new items, etc. There's tons to explore and tons to find.

Honestly I was expecting the game to be far more linear, but I suppose the folks saying it is probably never made it past chapter 1.

It is still fairly linear in general. But yes it does open up quite a bit as you get to later chapters...

Most of the people saying
NO EXPLORATION!!!
TOO LINEAR!!!

are simply trolls.

I do very much wish it had a mini-map and map though...

I'd say it's not linear at all. I've played A LOT of linear games. There are parts that are relatively linear, but there's also quite a bit of exploration. And heck in chapter 2 it's really pretty damn big. Tons of places to go, tons of routes to take.

Heck I ended up on the other side of a boss door. I couldn't open because I had to get there from the other side. I found a new area, decided to warp back and still had over 10 different places to go and even still have a few unexplored branches. I try to find an end to them, but I haven't so far.

It's not as open as Dark Souls 1 and not quite open world, but it's less linear than most action games. Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, etc... it's less linear than all of them.

Of course I'm not that far in the game yet. But I was expecting something about as linear as Lies of P with all of the 'boss rush game' and 'very linear' impressions and comments from reviewers and posters, but that doesn't quite seem to be the case. Though the game can be fairly restrictive when you want to grind some levels early on. Perhaps maybe that will be the case at later points as well.

Good to hear, that is a good thing in my book. Definitely going to get this with the next pay check

I will wait till I beat it for my final judgement (only halfway through chapter 2), but for now I can get behind this response.

Also people implying that linear equals bad. In times where most open worlds are considered slop I take some fun, good linear lvl design over the next ubisoft formula garbage copy.

The fact remains that every successful game attracts tons of trolls.

I do find the invisible walls jarring

There are two things that really annoy me in this game...
The liberal use of invisible walls all over the place and no map/mini-map...

Otherwise I have nothing but good things to say about this game.

I actually don't mind the lack of a map. A mini-map is distracting and you'll often skip corners and whatnot because the map says there's nothing. I feel like this makes you appreciate the environment more and really get to learn the areas/get familiar with it.

I do agree about the invisible walls though. That's one of the first things I noticed. It's not consistent with where they let you go and where they don't let you go. Where you can jump off and where you cannot jump off.
