It is built around you understanding the original tale to understand what is happening in this game...
While I absolutely love this game and think it's worth every penny, the story is hard to get behind unless you actually understand the chinese mythology that this game is based off of in the first place.
But the story is really not that coherent. It's unnecessarily complicated. But it's not bad
In the world of Black Myth: Wukong, the Heavenly Court has collapsed due to unknown reasons, leading to various factions vying for power. The demons who hold grudges against Sun Wukong disguise themselves as the Heavenly Court's forces and manage to kill him. However, even though Wukong's body perishes, his soul remains intact. The player’s mission is to collect Wukong's relics in order to resurrect him."
basically at the end of journey to the west, wukung renown his buddhahood and goes back to Flower Fruit Mountain to enjoy life, but the heaven wants him back for some reason, he decline to rejoin their rank, so to avoid a repeat of what happen 500 years ago, this time the heaven decide to strike 1st and try to eliminate him and wipe off Flower Fruit Mountain from the world.
as you can see, during the intro, Wukung was defeated by General Erlang with help from someone that knows Wukung's binding spell that would give him a headache so painful that render him unable to fight, as result he was sealed once again.
so you are chosen by the elder of Flower Fruit Mountain Monkey clan to free Wukung, and to do so, you need to gather some relic around the world which was guarded by the forces of heaven...
thats basically the story.
The 3 eyes Er Lang Shen Wukong fought in the prologue is the real one, not a fake.
He might be brainwashed or something tho.
These clues suggest that the character posing as Erlang Shen might actually be the Golden-Winged Great Peng in disguise, while Ju Ling Shen could be the demon elephant in disguise.
When defeated he stays at Er Lang Shen and proceeds to thank your monkey (but addressing as if you are Wukong) so I don't think this theory is correct.
The Golden Bird, if disguise, would probably disguise as Buddha instead (he actually can because he's Buddha's uncle).
