Oh well
You ask "Why is this so popular?"
And they read "This doesn't deserve to be popular."
The human mind tends to paraphrase.
For me I grew up knowing the Legend of the Monkey King in parts and snippets, I watched the original Dragon Ball and Goku was originally based on Sun Wukong.
There have been other adaptations of Journey to the West, but at best they've been a paraphrase, like that post apocalyptic game platformer by the same name which was sort of a grunge apocalypse retelling in its own way.
People have been hungry for a game that takes the grandeur of the original story and shows it some respect. To actually see Sun Wukong and live in his universe. To see so many various cultural icons that have been subtle used before in a current close to original adaptation in some form or another.
I hope you won't let the defensive fans swerve you away from the game. From what I've seen it has an interesting and fun storyline, and the reason so many people like this game isn't because of the politics around it, but because it fills a gap they've been hungry to fill for years. The politic reasoning is just the loudest and most vocal parts. But... that's politics. Political speak is always loud.
You know I could report you for editing my comment like that right?
And of course I haven't read the novel either so I didn't know the game was based on it either so that's why I asked that question. But now I've researched more about the game and it definitely does look nice and has its own qualities so I think I'll revisit it sometime in the future
This combined with the fact that this is like the first legitimately decent triple A-quality game the country has produced. But maybe I'm mistaken?
Well, you have an absolutely wonderful time. If you ever get around to playing the game I look forward to reading your review.
I will add that this game does take place after the book ends so it's not a retelling, more akin to a sequel.
Here in Kansas a beautiful sunny day. A bit too hot to be comfortable for me. But, that's life.
I very clearly stated these games were always going to be popular anyway but the fact woke leftie games 'journalists' (activists) thought it was a good idea to attack and slander the devs and try to harm the game definitely would be positive press for the game and while nobody obviously tracks stats on anti woke sales, I guarantee that helped them sell more not less.
Just go and look at the most 'woke' lefty DEI games to come out just recently to see how much gamers love that stuff overall. Oh wait, nobody is playing Concord and Dustborn has more pronouns than players lmao
"Like its actually kinda wild this game isn't more popular in the west given all the circumstances are in its favor"
You trolling? The game has been a roaring success everywhere and I have no doubt we are going to see more eastern devs want to cash in on this success, as more western studios go bankrupt because they refuse to give gamers what they want - good games not infested with woke DEI nonsense
It's got fluid gameplay, a good story, good bosses and good music. I'd reckon that's enough.

You called out a "Lol, Broke" as an insult,
Lol broke.
Brother you're on the side with racists and homophobes, I think I'm good where I stand. Says the guy who doesn't like seeing black people in a video game.
[quote=Hanabi;4426562616040781585
I'm here on this forum because I intend to support and play this game. You're here because you're making a social justice stand against this game.
What social justice stand? Black Myth Wukong is fine and the quote from IGN was based a mistranslated. My issue isn't with the game, my issue is with you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chumps latching onto like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ parasites because you think its "taking a stand against DEI". I don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about the game. Could it have more variety in its characters, sure, but its competently made nonetheless. The west we'll probably forget about it two to three months time just like we did with other similar "yeah its good" games, but you nutjobs? You nutjobs will find something else to latch onto, whether its a game that's listed on that dumb SBI detected group or through some of the incel content creators currently existing at the bottom of Youtube's algorithm. You'll find the next one and you'll either bombard their forum to talk ♥♥♥♥ to the developers or to defend it. And to be honest, you deserved to be mocked and harried for that.
I am, you should come by,
