any way to crack open the mural after the first prince is already dead?

i want to get the long scales in order to fight the hidden bosses behind the waterfalls but apparently you have to have the first prince crack open the mural. only problem is he is already dead.

edit: i just tried to smash it open with the blue baby man spirt head smash and it worked!
