Stuttering is a big issue in this game
Seriously, even tho it loads shaders when starting the game, when I start fighting new enemies the game stutters a lot, and then if I fight them again there is no stuttering. Its really frustrating how bad performance is

Ok, I did this, a tip from the first descendant forum, idk if this is the cause, but the game ran fine for me after I did it:

Your shader cache may be wonky and in need of clearing. If you don't know how to do so, I'll help you out.

If you're using an NVIDIA card, open the NVIDIA Control Panel and navigate to Manage 3D settings > Global Settings > Shader Cache Size, and change it to Disabled.

Restart your PC, open File Explorer, navigate to this path:

"C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\AppData\Local\NVIDIA\GLCache"

Delete the folder with all the numbers and letters. In NVIDIA Control Panel, change the shader cache back to its original value or just 5GB to be safe, and reboot once more. When you launch The First Descendant, it should rebuild its shader cache and hopefully fix your performance.

If you're using an AMD graphics card, open AMD Radeon Software, click the gear icon in the top-right, click Graphics, scroll down and expand Advanced section, and hit "Reset Shader Cache".

Hopefully this should fix it for you. I limited my FPS to 10 when I walked away from my machine before when the game was building the shader cache and when I came back and put my FPS back to normal my game ran at 20-30FPS constantly. I relaunched the game to see if it was just a fluke and it stayed. I had to clear my shader cache and leave my FPS uncapped while the shader cache was building and it played smooth.

Nope 60 fps w Raytracing or 120fpss with no raytraacing, Zero crashes in 9 hours. Runs good.
sempaisanosuke76 Aug 21, 2024 @ 11:35am
He wrote stutter not crash and YES it stutters like the plague (classic unreal engine first version)

If you change graphics settings alot back and fort, the game will stutter way more when raytracing is on. So the game needs a restart. This is all due to the UE5 version the game is using. Devs need to update and patch or get major help from Epic Games, I have a feeling that this game wont be optimized properly until 2025 as the devs seem only to care about how much they can make on sales of this game at the moment. Time will tell.

Mine only has issues in cut scenes. In game its been pretty solid. I do have RTX off.

There is rather minor traversal stutter as is common with UE games. I have only encountered this in areas without combat so it did not present serious issue. It is mildly annoying as it pull you out of the immersion a bit but it is definitely not so bad it would completely ruin the experience for me.

I'm currently running the game at 1440p, mostly very high setting with RT on low. My rig is: i9 12900KF, RTX 3080ti, 32GB DDR5 RAM, NVMe SSD, Win 11.

Yes, there are freezes, and in the world, they happen in the same places where the location is glued. Although what is there to glue in a corridor world, I don't give a ♥♥♥♥. During the fight with the bosses, it often freezes out of nowhere. All settings are on realism, 2k resolution, dlss quality 75%, generation is enabled via mod, RTX ultra. FPS - 45-70, with freezes. My system is 10900kf - 32 GB - 3090 Ti Supreme X, the game is on SSD 970 EVO. Hands should be broken in the opposite direction for such optimization. I can understand this, partly in the Ark of Ascension, there is a huge open world with hundreds of mobs. But here, why such a miserable fps, and even freezes, when this is an empty corridor 10 meters wide, maximum.

You do not have machine to run those game settings, especially with RT on Ultra. Set your settings to Very high, put RT on medium (or just turn it off) and the game will be much smoother.
This game looks absolutely amazing and runs fine for the quality it offers. Complaining about optimization when you try to run Path-tracing on an 30xx card is stupid.

I've had almost zero stuttering, only minor traversal stutter, and i'm close to act 2 end. If you've stuttering then your system is either too weak or your settings are too ambitious for your rig and you should dial them down. This game is the most demanding UE5 game that came out so far, i'm playing at 4k/cinematic with 4080 and have to use DLSS Balanced and FG to get that 90fps.

why should I turn it off, without RTX the reflections look like a piece of ♥♥♥♥, and the trails from both the character and his stick split into two on the water surface, which does not happen when RTX is on at ultra.

you have RTX disabled, where would you get stutters from, freezes are mostly for those who have tracing enabled

You can keep RT on Ultra but you should not complain about game lagging and freezing when your machine does not support that level of graphical fidelity. This game has Path Tracing when RT is set to Ultra, which is extremely taxing on your GPU and CPU. RT Ultra is for 13/14 gen or equivalent CPUs and 4080+ cards. Deal with it.

You don't seem to know that there has been a mod for over a year that allows you to enable frame generation on any cards starting with the 2000 series, where there is an option to enable DLS 3. My card works with generation no worse than the 4000 series. Huang is fooling fools like you, who think that you need at least the 4000 series for generation. My 3090 Ti Supreme X is similar to the 4070 Ti super, so don't tell me fairy tales to disable generation and tracing. With tracing, I have almost 2 times more fps than without it, and the game doesn't get any worse visually. I use this mod in dozens of games, and it works great everywhere.

Just stop. Really, play the game with freezes and stutters for all I care. The mod you paid for, LOL, is not doing great job it seems. /facepalm

Path Tracing is on every RT setting doesn't matter if it's low/medium/high it's like in AW2. Software RT aka Lumen is already in basic cinematic settings.
