how to properly use focus/strong attack?

i find myself actively avoiding to use it due to it being so painfully slow that it's unusable for most of the time. for example during the whiteclad fight it's just not possible to use it without taking damage after/before. basically im not using it...

is there something I'm missing about this skill? any other way to discharge/use the focus points instead of that strong attack?

You either use strong attack as some endstring from your light attacks which is called varied combo. Or you wait until max focus and smash yourself at the boss.. there are plenty openings.. since you have a lot of hyper armor and dmg reduction (must use points for ironbound resolve perk). Against some mid tier enemies I mostly only use charge attack for the stagger.

Against bosses I always use it once I have max focus.. since you get a pretty nice stagger hitting bosses with that. Even better once you have the 4th focus point where it turns into a MASSIVE dmg attack.

I was confused about this too. It has a "wind up" period so if you hit it, it take a second to activate and execute. Which throws me.

But then if you hit it during a combo it's instant but I can never really figure out WHEN in the combo to hit it.

Never did figure out how to use it with focus points. I have not been having any issues beating bosses or anything so I had not stopped to really look into it haha.

if you don't want to charge the heavy attack, you can always jump heavy.

the points can also be used on parry/reposte on smash stance right side.
