I need some explanation with the final cutscene of chapter 2. What does it have anything to do with the whole Yellow Ridge characters?
In the background story of the novel, Lingji Bodhisattva is the nemesis of Huangfeng Dasheng. The original work states that Sun Wukong cannot defeat Huangfeng Dasheng and asks Lingji Bodhisattva for help. But in the game, the head of Lingji Bodhisattva was stolen by a mouse
In the real world, the head sculpture of a Bodhisattva is currently on display at the British Museum in the UK.
I haven't played far enough, but without spoilers, who is Huangfeng Dasheng? And who exactly is the man who rescued the fox in the cutscene?

Huangfeng Dasheng is the boss of the second level, holding a Buddha head and a mouse that can use the power of sandstorms

The game is set after Journey to the West, and may tell another story of Journey to the West. For some reason, the immortals in heaven have fallen or encountered a crisis, and the connection between the heavenly court and the earthly realm has been severed, causing the world to fall

Wait, so Buddha is not the master of Yellow Wind Sage?

In the game's setting, he is the master of the Yellow Wind King, and he deceived his master and stole his head. In historical novels, he is a little demon under the banner of the Heavenly Court Buddha who only has the power to steal lamp oil

I have left my impressions of the plot here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2358720/discussions/0/4426562436919249188/

I am surprised the plot deviates this much from the moral lesson of the JttW, this seems more like it subverts the original story..

Firstly, the story background is based on two novels, Journey to the West and The Legend of Wukong,
Secondly, some of the stories in the Black Myth of Wukong are compiled from local folk traditions
Finally, in my opinion, the story of the Black Myth Wukong may be made to meet the feelings of Chinese people. There are many ironic things in the game

I have some disagreements with the interpretation of the devs.

The journey to the West with 81 trials & tribulations are meant to teach Wukong humbleness and character, they are not supposed to trick and burden Wukong like Black Myth implies.

This is why Buddha wants Wukong to walk to the West instead of flying via the cloud.

Either ways, just my impressions.

But in Journey to the West, how many monsters came down from heaven? Isn't this implying social darkness

I have discussed this with friends before.

The light reading is that Heaven and Buddha realm is lax and many beasts use this to mess up Earth.

The dark reading is the journey was meant to vanquish or recover bad elements in Buddha dom.

But in either reading, Buddha sent Guayin to regularly watch and save Wukong and sometimes he himself intervened. It's wrong to say Buddha was evil in sending Wukong to the West.
