The keyboard will be easier to use spells, the controller requires two key presses...

Unfortunately it can't be reconfigured.
I use the arrow keys for movement and you cant remap them in this.
Very poor.

Get an app called POWER TOYS, has a keyboard remapper extremely easy to use free and reliable I use it for a few games that do the hardlocking nonsense

Not amused at all that at the games launch you are unable to remap the keys. Especially for a game as large as this.

The menu states that they should be able to be customised so is it a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon in a patch, or is it something that they are aware of and won't be fixed?

Not for me, cant use spells on European (Czech) keyboard, cant play the game cant use the spells, looking for the workaround.

i also can not use spells
i am using a tada 68 but i also tried a cherry keyboard that i have
pressing the keys 1 or 4 (i am only this far in the game) does not do anything
I will start a naew game as i am not far into the game to see if it does fix it
I already checked the game files on steam

Well i found a solution
I use a french layout in winwos 11 because i noticed in Deep Rock Galactic you have to rebind 12 3 4 to & é " ' which are the corresponding symbols on the french keyboard
I just took an English W11 layout and i could use my spells
