Question about language localization
Never really thought about it until now... the newest trailers (USA) feature English language voice acting & mouth movements. It occurs to me some games may come only with local language (if available) on release.

I don't know what's typical, so let me ask specifically: will this game release in North America with the Chinese language audio & original animations as an option? (I realize I don't often play games where this is a concern, so idk what to expect.) It would... kinda really suck to have to play this in English, and with English language facial animations. (Weird!)

Thanks for any insight. There was no info about this on the official website.

I believe the answer is YES, but this is not the key point.

Actually both the English translation and audio (at least the context in trailer) are really excellent compared to the other games or videos translated from Chinese, especially considering there's a lot of "rhetorical devices " like metaphors in this game, which are expressed in ancient Chinese.

Well, there would definitely be lots of information loss/distortion during this, but it do be well expressed in idiomatic English, another way of course. If you were a Chinese or even Asian language speaker you will find the voice acting in this game is surprisingly "state of art", implying it may be more IMMERSIVE using Chinese track.

However, this doesn't mean the English version is bad, I think a lot of players who are not so keen on following this game are more willing to start the story in English(just imagine someone who never heard of Journey to the West be bewildered to the Chinese voice and trying to grab some words in subtitle they can understand to build up the story in a confusing way. That's why they take the English track so serious -- to leverage the bar of their maiden work, making it more acceptable for none-Chinese speaking players.

Overall the main concern should still be the quality of this game. The voice is important only with a descent gameplay experience. The game has been entrusted with tons of expectations so it would be a disaster if the content is not fulfilled enough like 2077's launch.

What makes things worse is the politics, since this is the first attempt that a Chinese company tries to create a top game, they received blessings as much as the curses. The members of game community influenced by “elaborately polished information”, or sometimes even the political fanatics themselves are more and more like to take a seat and link each comment with malicious political assumptions, which deteriorates and divides the fragile community environment where we just like and want good games.

I have never, never seen such a debating discussion forum of a game which is not published yet but have so many "outstanding diplomats" are dealing with"Sino-West relationship ". If you have a glance of what they say you will understand why i'm so angry.

So please just stay chill and wait for the game. If it is good, all of our players can enjoy, no matter you speak English or Chinese. So this is what I hope for the game: being a bridge for both languages, not like those who waste their time in stupid topics.:steamfacepalm:

Of course, there will be an English translation, but I think it can only be a simple translation of Chinese sentences and cannot interpret their profound meanings. Some Chinese sentences are like hyperlinks, which can extend many meanings
建议你们用中文原声,界面和字幕用你们本土语言,有不懂可以去tiktok看看这个游戏的文化背景,比较复杂说实话

sure, just like we play english games, we also wouldn't use cn translation and the content provider will enable us to play the original english version.
and a lot of gamers of us believe that is the onlt way to have the authentic experience.
