And to dogpile unto this :D, the story of hanuman is different from journey to the west, other than some similarity in broad theme. And while Sun Wu Kong has similarity to Hanuman, there are a few distinct differences too, especially in terms of blind devotion (孙行者 。。 Sun Xing Zheis definitely not that archetype, even if he does harbour loyalty toward tang san zhan ) or so called epitome of self control, LOL, which will be ludicrous to crown our 弼馬溫 who rocked the heavens and stole the heavenly peaches.
And you are right to say that the story about other monkeys and monkey demon/ spirit/ fairy (妖/魔 。。 sorry some worlds does not translate well) also served as an inspiration.
So to claim that Hanuman is a PRIMARY course for Sun Wu Kong would be disingenious. It is ONE of the sources of inspiration, definitely. But not the ONLY, or even the PRIMARY.
