Well it plays identically to the version in the battlenet client so people will just stick to their platform of choice. There's literally no reason to switch since unique platform features aren't being used. Cross-platform is nice though, but I guess that means the game has to be identical. I've played both and I can't tell the difference. And with steam being the loader you don't need to have the battlenet client hogging your disk space for no reason(unless you have other blizzard games).

No, not really. You're giving the game publicity, relevance, word of mouth, higher player count, all things that others look for when judging to play a game. Playing a free game is quite literally supporting that game financially even if it isn't directly from your bank.

I got this game for free, have played probably close to 500 hours on Battlenet and have never spent a single penny on skins or whatever other pointless things there are to buy. I can safely say I have not been ripped off.
