Honestly, one of my biggest mistakes when playing this back in 2018 was the fact that I hit level 25 and immediately went into ranked. I'd say play QP as much as you can until you feel your game sense / comfort with your heroes kicks in and then go buck wild. :)

The only way you're going to learn how competitive play works is by actually doing it.

QP and competitive are totally different. People running face first onto the point in a 1v5 still happen, but its far less frequent from what I've seen. People are more communicative as well. Which is both positive and negative as well.

until learning heroes.
for example: If you dnt know what genji does, how he can go in or out, how deflect works, how long it takes, when they cancel it etc..
another example: how long is dva's minimum right click. So you can reload when she does right click. It is free reload time for most heroes.

etc etc...
you dnt have to be pro about heroes just needed general knowledge.

you can start learning in competitive games. just don't expect to win. We are learning from our mistakes.


overwatch is not long range fps game. So enterance level is little bit high but dnt worry when you hit skill floor, you will start having more fun. + always watch your dead recap. You can learn a lot from it.

another tip: some heroes needs advanced settings. When you start playing new hero, check from internet. for example: mercy can play without holding mouse buttons. or she can fly different directions or attached target without looking it. Lucio can back walk on walls. Echo can adjust duplicate sens or you can open confirmation ui for her ulti. etc etc. Soju, illari, lifew, kiriko can swap left/right button for left=hitscan/damage, right: projectile/heal etc...

Doesn't matter. Most people don't care and just play as soon as they can. Most veterans peaked right before grasping the concepts of using cover and regrouping.
