Why does everyone hate Overwatch 2?

I have never played Overwatch 1 but I see that everyone hates this game, why is that?

its not that they hate the game in itself, they hate the company which promised a full story campaign only to cancel it and deliver a nothing burger for a sequel

it used to be a buy to play game where you could get almost everything for free and they promised a pve

ow1 was like the last bastion of free cosmetics for live service games

It started off fun but as they added more and more characters the game became too much of a moba. you used to just play what character you wanted and now you have to pick characters based on team comp and counter team comp, at least you dont have to do character builds on top of it.

the overwatch community is also really annoying and cringe, its just lol players that understand enough to not break rules and skirt around then but still equally as toxic. ow players have mastered the art of being toxically passive aggressive

ow while always intended to be a esport since it was made from the ground up to be one, is an other case of esports are popular but suck. esports are a fools errand, theres hardly anyways to make them completely fair and they arnt fun. all the fun theres to be had was sucked out to make it a better esport. I question how many people actually enjoy playing the game especially ranked, since most people are just grinding to rank up.

for most people esports are more about being part of a scene then actually playing the game, you need something to tack on to your list of interests so you can hang out with people. esports always try to have a scene built around them, making their games so people are constantly making and watching videos on strats and game info trying to make it seem like they are playing a sport so they buy merch, making it so people would want to build online communities around it.

none of that has anything to do with game play or the actual enjoyment of it, just how invested you are. esports are just a way to suck people in.

EDIT: I also cant take big esports people opinions on things seriously, like high level comp players because they are literally making money off playing the game and making content/ being a esports celebrities. im shure shroud would give you a big speach about esports and blah blah blah, he's made a living off of it for like over a decade now. think he would ever tell you esports are dumb and he's just doing it for money and he stoped enjoying playing game competitively years ago. comp/esport scenes used to happen organically, people would play a game then enjoy playing it at a high level. but now all those scenes are forced, company makes a game to be a esport then trys to tournaments and sponsors people. theres no telling how many people just do it for money now.

The hate is not really against "Overwatch", it's against Blizzard

I can't speak for everyone else, but I know my heart was just a bit broken when they promised us a PVE mode with character progression and the like, only to cancel it because it wasn't coming together. In retrospect, they should have just kept their noses to the grindstone, thrown out what wasn't working and started from scratch. Gamers have learned to live with delays, but this felt like a bait and switch. The Overwatch universe is probably my personal favorite in all of gaming and the thought of an Overwatch MMO-lite had me excited for years. I secretly hope that they are still working on it behind the scenes after seeing the backlash to its cancellation. I'm sure I'm setting myself up for disappointment though.

The only reason why overwatch is rated so bad is because china had banned it so chinese people cant play overwatch and some how the battle pass is another reason why

promised content which they dont released, ripped out a whole gamemode and its great maps like hanamura etc., constant bad decisions for the heroes...doomfist was once a dd for example or the ult cancel system in general...its a big list and i gave just a few examples

some people are the guilty to make the game more miserable, removing the content and the quality for quantity.

and everybody (mayority included) hated flashpoint
escort and hybrid are less stressful to touch.
not to mention the ending cards, the participation rewards (earning stuff by playing the game even lootboxes too) to completing missions in archives and anniversary
