Why do People hate on you when you play Mercy?

Hey,
Since ow2 came out on steam I have started playing it again with the boyz, pretty fun so far. Whenever I play mercy (I mostly play support as I find it more chill), a lot of people hate on me, and i'm not sure why. My own team8s say stuff like *healbott*, am I supposed to use my pistol as Mercy? I always try to use my rev when its off-cooldown and my damage boost when healing isn't needed. I had 110+- hours in ow1 and 2, got 18h on steam now. Just curious because I legitimately have no idea what am I supposed to do in these situations.

They are just memeing at you ignore them as long as you are using shift and then hitting control so you fly up in the air, you are ok in my book, if you are a mercy that doesn’t shoot up into the air with every shift I might dislike you. Other than that just keep on playing the heroes you want to play.

I main mercy and every game I win I like to say “have you thought about targeting the mercy?” With my 15k heals and very few deaths. Alittle anti memeing for my mercy bros

They would be more upset if they weren't getting heals. Don't worry about it.

I haven't played a lot but nobody really talks a lot in casual, might just be a comp community issue.

A decent Mercy is very hard to kill due to her movement and the DPS get salty.

Ehh its probably cause most mercy players are a 'heal bot'
I've played with quite a few between OW1 and now, 2 that were absolutely insane though. thatll swap to pistol and kill /damage a lot then heal when needed. But about 80% of the mercy players are just heal and dps boost bots sadly.
I still play her here and there, even tho I prefer the other healers now cause they're more fun. But shes still decent imo. I just ignore the comments.

Anyways what I'm doing is I play Mercy like how I play Medic in TF2. If my teammate get mad I'd type Medic's one-liners into the chat.

The real answer is that Mercy is in an awful position right now because other characters can do what she does while also contributing too the fight in another way. You can either play mercy where you can only heal 1 target at a time, boost 1 allies's damage output by 25% or pull your pistol out to do some damage but you can't do all of these things at once. Or you can just play Zenyatta where you can heal a single target while you also have a discord orb out boosting the damage an enemy takes by 25% from your entire team and you can be laying down some extremely deadly fire of your own at the same time. I didn't bring up Mercy's rez because if you actually manage to pull it off your opponent messed up big time. All the people in here talk about how a decent mercy will just use their movement to evade salty dps that can't hit them. Well a Zenyatta that can aim their shots will kill those dps before they ever get in a position to threaten a mercy while also bringing value too the team in the form of healing and team wide damage multiplication also those dps are bad for just chasing a mercy which might lead then into a deathtrap instead of taking a better position to get ready for the next fight.

imo Mercy needs to have "Overheal" ability like Medic has in TF2. Might as well they should add Uber as ult also.

never had my own team say this to me but maybe you are healing them when they are full hp instead of damage boosting them

Truth be told, "(X) sucks don't use it" shenanigans is just a bunch of FotM kids trying to manipulate the meta or upset people for no reason... so just go with whatever hero you like the most.

I mean it shouldn't matter what you play in casual but i do stand by the fact that if you play mercy you are making things harder on your team and yourself. Unless you literally just arn't comfortable with any FPS mechanics in which case play mercy she basically exist in the game for that reason.
