positioning as ashe/when to use bob
i'm going to make a genuine effort to try and get into this game (i will not spend money)

ashe is my favorite character to play so far but i never really know where i should be during fights or when to use bob. i tend to stay around the high ground since she's like a weird sniper so i figure that's what i should be doing, but i sometimes feel as if i'm playing too far back (plus the whole "we need to group up" thing confuses me sometimes, because i don't know whether to stay close to my team or further back and near the high ground)

i also don't really know when to use bob. i'll try to use him when i see a bunch of people on the enemy team are hurt and grouped up in one place, but that's resulted in nothing really happening before. should i use him when my other teammates ult? what ults should i be waiting for before using him?

You've got the right idea on positioning, you are a sniper and your job is to stay safe while pressuring dps/supports and controlling sightlines. She is shorter range than widow but higher than Cassidy, the damage fall-off for being out of range is pretty significant but where you position is always map dependant. Ashe is also one of the dps that gets significantly better with a mercy damage boosting you. If you have a zenyatta look for the discord orb on enemies for the same effect. Also, this goes for any character, but don't be afraid to shoot shields for your team, just try to learn when you need to be going for kills and when you just need pressure on tanks.

Bob is a strong ult but older players know how to deal with him; LOS his fire, let a tank shield it, or just burn him down instantly (5 people shooting him will kill him in 1-2 seconds). Angle him into spots that you don't have an angle on and force people to choose between eating his damage or yours, don't send him somewhere near the enemy tank if possible. His charge also does a ton of damage so sending him into a squishy within range lets you instapop them if they get launched. More than anything just be aware of cooldowns that counter Bob, sleep dart, any stuns, an enemy sombra will counter him entirely if you send it into their back line alone etc.
