Honestly, it's the other way around. Usually the OW base is too preoccupied with one another and the devs to care about TF2.
...what? There was an entire Twitter campaign called #SaveTF2 that managed to get a response out of perpetually non-communicative Valve. I can assure you people know of the problems
... however, some games are more perfect than others. ;)
It ain't that we forget that it's flawed, it's that we're willing to overlook its flaws because the game itself is super fun to play despite the flaws. Can the same honestly be said for Overwatch 2? Maybe, if you're into that sort of thing.
I suppose at the end of the day it boils down to player preferences. Are you the type to rely on skill or are you the type to rely on perks and quirks?
Personally, to an extent, I don't mind grinding/farming, 'cuz I'm used to performing repetitive tasks (you can see this by the amount of hours I spent playing Borderlands 2 and 3). However even I have my limit there. OW2 has plenty of grinding, while TF2 can be enjoyed from the get-go without having to do anything special. The additional items you get in TF2 only serve to enhance the core gameplay experience without changing it drastically. At the end of the day there, you'll still die quickly and kill quickly... which happens more often will depend on your skill level.
Can the same honestly be said about Overwatch 2?
Are we talking about TF2, because TF2 defines casual FPS. It is the poster child for casual games. Sweat it out in OW2 competitive PvP, get to diamond or master, and try to say it doesn't rely on skill.
I played Dota for well over a decade so I know sweaty games, and TF2 isn't one of them. Overwatch 2 is sweaty as hell, especially after all of the changes made for 5v5.
Also you start the game with 35 heroes, all of which are more than enough to go all the way. Even the starter heroes if you're playing the new player experience can carry you to the top if you're good and know what you're doing. A new player won't but that's the point of learning. Playing to acquire the OW2 heroes comes naturally from just playing the game, it really isn't a big deal.
Eww cheater
Overwatch was actual trash from 2018-2020 until they rebalanced shields and tuned down healing/CC. OW2 removing almost all CC, redesigning previously passive heroes, and making it 5v5 made the game the best its ever been. Sucks that the old PvE vision didn't happen but I'm a PvP guy anyway...
All of the "I miss the old Overwatch" comments are about as delusional as the TF2 fans who actually believe that Valve does a good job supporting the game.
You evidently haven't played competitive TF2. And sure, Overwatch takes some skill, every game does, but TF2's skill ceiling is much higher still as you really need strong mechanics
You should try joining an MGE server sometime, lol, but do make sure to prepare your anus
"You know Medic with his coat, doves and soundtrack and halo imagery in trailers, a subtle angelic theme? Let's give our healer literal robo wings and robo halo. Yes, she gets the healing beam and projectile pistol as well. Oh, it should sound similar to Medic, call her Mercy. Yeah, she should also speak German, but let's make her Swiss so it's not a direct copy. Medic can resurrect players in PvE, let's make that her Ult in PvP"
Not saying games copying each other is a bad thing, but Mercy really looks like a Medic rip-off
Maybe this game would be given less flack if we could just play the original game separate from the sequel. The fact that Blizzard basically bastardized the original game, turned it into a greedy cash grab, and then lied about their pve content being a fully fleshed out story mode with leveling and RPG mechanics is what makes this game deserve every negative review it gets
At least with TF2, you will not once have to touch the store to have everything the opponent has for free (you may still need to get certain achievments or use the contracker to get weapons but it's all free, and there are community servers that will unlock everything for you or make the process very easy). The only mode that requires a buy-in is Mann Vs Machine and that's only if you want to get the loot, you can still play every mission w/o a ticket.
Maybe the reason why overwatch fans bring tf2 up so much is because it is an objectively superior game with a better focus on community, and they would rather cope by justifying how that game is worse through nitpicks than to show how overwatch is great (or was, before the sequel)
