you connect your overwatch account to your steam account just like any other multiplayer game, nothing about it effects your steam account regardless. You gotta say some crazy ass ♥♥♥♥ in order to get banned though, in my experience the game is pretty lenient when it comes to toxicity.

If you have another bnet account and add your Steam account through the "Account Management" setting, it will unlink from the old account and re-link to your new one.

Or did you mean that you did that and your new bnet account was banned afterwards too?
