probably yea, it says only requires battle net account, not 3rd party app. and on twitter some of the devs confirmed you don't need battle net app to play from Steam.

You just need your Blizzard account to log in, no need for the launcher.

it's not different version, it's just different launcher. you just log in from your normal account and everythin will be there.

It will almost certainly require using a post-paid phone number you will have to activate on your battlenet account. (affecting new overwatch players who might be reading this)

Unless you specifically want to use steam friends list and the ease of joining people etc (game actually is not bad when played in a group with mics) and need steam chat I think now with the changes/updates steam launcher made the game might actually perform better using the Bnet launcher as you can set it to close when you launch a game. Less cpu processes and less memory used up (potentially of course).
