Overwatch randomly dropping frames
Im not sure why but recently Overwatch has been dropping frames like CRAZY. I swear I used to be able to run the game at a consistent 60 fps but now I'm struggling to maintain a consistent 60. At best (right now), I'm running about 58-60 but then it can drop down to the 55 fps range, and I've even had it dip to the 40 and 30 frame mark. It makes aiming really hard, jittery, and annoying. Worst of all I can't pin it on a specific reason. It happens in spawn, during team fights, I can't see a specific reason why it'd be dropping.

Right now all of my settings are in the low range, with my highest settings being models and textures being on medium.

I double checked and I know I don't have any background processes running. I'm getting these frame drops regardless of whether or not I have my web browser open. Overwatch itself isn't hogging all my computer's memory or CPU usage either.

If needed I can post my specs as well, but I wanted to see if anyone else knows what the issue could possibly be.

Yes. I had the same issue, fullscreen mode somehow works better in this game.

oh super weird. I've been playing in borderless window since Invasion and I'm only now having issues. I'll give it a try and see if I see anything affected.

Friends also recommended to switch to DirectX 12 and I'm still dropping frames but I'm not feeling the stutter as much. Feels a lot more manageable. I'll test around with it more but it might not be a bad idea since I rely a lot on borderless wndowed
I found a malwere with a free software that fixed my stuttering, give a try.

Yeah gave it a try and the frame drops are just completely gone. Why is this the case? I've been running borderless window for forever at this point so why is it just suddenly causing stutters? I'd like to be using it just because I find myself tabbing out often for various reasons.
I was getting low fps when I enabled directx 12 Iusually get 180 fps but with directx 12 it drops to 90-70 after switch back to directx 11 I don't have fps drops, it was stuttering at the beggining lol but it fixed it, directx 12 is still beta so I think some players don't have any issues enabling it, but for me that was the problem lol

Only if you're playing on a potato. I play borderless and my framerate is a solid 120. Higher, actually, I just have it capped at 120fps.

I don't know, it was suddenly for me as well - same PC, same stuff running in the background, but occasional framerate drops and even stutters. I even noticed that sometimes I have higher framerate once in a week with no issues. I tried to research that - no help, but then I stumbled upon reddit topic about "what pros game settings are" and one thing that stood out is Fullscreen mode. It is something about how Windows manages to give full power of GPU on Exclusive Fullscreen, since it has nothing else to render on the said screen. Glad it helped.

I don't have a potato PC, but still had an issue with the stability. Dropping from 200 fps to 120 on high-refresh monitor is very noticable.
