Banned for Toxicity? Shocking. Truly Unbelievable.
Ah yes, another day, another thread of someone shocked—appalled, even—that they got banned for "no reason at all." It’s always the same story:

"I just said one little thing!" (Sure, buddy.)
"People can just mute me!" (Because everyone should adjust to YOU, right?)
"This is a team game, I was just giving constructive criticism!" (We all know that’s code for flaming teammates.)

Look, Overwatch has a mute button, yes. But it also has rules. If you consistently get reported, maybe—just maybe—it’s not the entire community being oversensitive. Maybe it’s you.

And no, reporting someone isn’t about bigotry, being a snowflake, or being delicate. It’s just about basic coexistence. People log in to play a game and have fun, not to read the unfiltered rage of some frustrated teenager who can’t handle losing a match.

Also, let’s be real: 99% of the people crying about bans would never dare talk like that to a stranger in real life. But behind a screen? Oh, suddenly they’re the toughest person alive. It’s easy to act like a badass when there are zero consequences, huh?

It’s actually really easy to not get banned:
1. Don’t be a jerk.
2. ???
3. That’s it. There is no step 3.

But hey, if you really can’t help yourself, there’s always single-player games.

This is why I stick to games like Forza so I can be a racist without people getting the wrong idea.

25 years ago it wasn't toxicity, these days it is. Different times sir. Back then people knew it was just trash talk, now it's regarded as personal.

yea, once the normies got into gaming. it was downhill from there.
If you value your sanity playing this game, do what I do and ctrl+c the second you boot the game up. There might be reasonable, cool folk out there, but it isn't worth dragging yourself through the legions of elitist drones to find them.
You won't be able to hear or make call-outs, but you can still use the ping system and if you're only losing a match because you couldn't do call-outs, you were probably going to lose it anyway.

bruh, people will flag you that. They even flag you, if they play bad.

true example:

I was playing I think her name was Moira (the duel caster, heal and DPS).
First match, my tank would blitz behind enemy lines get dropped and blamed me for not healing him. Rest of the DPS team and other healer would hang way back. Him and the rest of the squad all agreed I'm the "weakest link". Eventually got flagged.

Second match, same map, different team. Didn't change a thing about my style. This Tank stayed close to the team and up front. DPS was well scattered, other healer was near me but covering DPS. End match my heal was about 5x the other healer and my DPS was second in damage done of the team. We won a tough match.

my point: Toxic is as toxic does. They just want an excuse to flag you because there is no consequences for mass flagging.

Based off what people are saying here I think maybe the problem with these bans might be their ai system. I think it might get triggered after enough reports.

I personally never gotten banned in Ow2 and I use voice all the time but only for gameplay callouts, the match maker must love me or people are nicer in diamond/masters so maybe nobody is reporting me and triggering it? I also try to keep everyones mood up and their attention on the game if I sense tilt, sometimes you just gotta lie and tell your junkrat his tire was sick, hyping your team mates up really works and you'll get that lvl 5 endorsement too.

I completely agree with you. Then, the same people you mentioned show up on forums with threads like, "Why was I banned?", "I got banned for no reason!", "I’m innocent, but I got banned!" I don’t understand why people with a toxic mindset even play online games. And then they go around whining everywhere.

I always report even the smallest toxic behavior because I want a calm, respectful, and kind gaming environment and I’ll keep reporting. T-bagging is also one of the reasons I report, and yes, they do get punished for it.

People get banned and act toxic in chat over some game they'll forget in 10 minutes, and in 5 minutes, they'll forget the player who performed poorly. Imagine wasting time on chat and arguing with someone over this. And this doesn’t just apply to OW2 but also to League of Legends and other online games.

I don't know why people find this post unreasonable. In my hundreds of hours in OW2, playing both ranked and QP, I have never once been warned or penalised. I have no idea how so many people feel they can't say anything in the chat and I get the impression that the system is working exactly as intended when I read their complaints.

Just don't be a ♥♥♥♥. It's a video game.

After 7 or 8 account bans...i finally learned that this is a snowflake game and it would be best for me to shut up and beat them down senselessly (camping, 1v1s, winning 1v4s) with my skills.

and I teabag them ofc...only way to show your aggression against them snowflakes without getting banned. And if they get mad about teabag, you have good chance of getting them suspended if they said something...it does work if they continue to talk mad crap. lol. This is my revenge against snowflakes.

Im sorry but cant help being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about getting my team ♥♥♥♥ together to make a team progress after minutes of losing/no progress. If one or 2 person are lacking skill or not position correctly, i would kindly tell them if they want to win, they'd have to stick with team and open their eyes and not get out in open area. or counterswap.
IF they replied snarkily, i throw the game by just cruising around the map or poking enemy team and running away for lul.

There is no point trying to win the last 3 minutes of game if nobody is working together. Me being non committed to teamfights usually get the chat going so i can report them. Dont care as long I wasnt the reason why the team failed.

And no, im not in wet paper rank...Im in masters, almost grandmaster here and there. Been playing competitively solo in wide range of games since cs 1.6 days with few good advice from coaches and experiences from playing in competitive scenes for Cevo gaming league.

its a nanny state issue. to keep their rating they have to moderate chat.

the problem is they weaponize reporting, where you can be harassed but have no real care to "report" but others can and will.

OP is overgeneralizing to make their point. the fact remains that some nonzero number of reports come from people who may be completely in the wrong doing it out of retaliation. and if you're in a group or get the lobby "on your side" you effectively can weaponize the report system.

Playing poorly or characters others don't want you to play has amounted to getting reported. OP makes this argument that it's about "basic coexistence" but if 4 people in the lobby don't like what you're doing, you're bullied into changing otherwise you are at risk of being reported, even if you're not wrong.

i've had friends getting 2-week banned before. It's always in response to hostility by a someone else, or them venting out on strangers that they were losing. so i can understand OP's Point of view a bit.

with that said though, it's unbelievably easy to get banned on this game. It's gotten so bad that people dont join comms or voice comms anymore and straight up disable chat altogether in fear of getting banned for the slightest sign of frustration.

i know that cause i did.

you did what? Flag people for voicing their frustrations? or Getting banned for voicing yours?
Musoko Mar 2 @ 6:30pm
Funny you say that.

I have all chats disabled and never typed in chat and got a 2 week suspension for abusive chat.

Totally not just a faulty reporting system
