They supposedly added the Role Queue to improve the game, but the only thing it caused was the darkest era of Overwatch 1 (2019 - 2022) and because of it they experimented with 5v5 which sank the game even more.
The game is becoming more individualistic and is losing its identity and that of its characters (Bastion: 76, Doomfist, etc.).
6v6 / Open Queue worked (literally won the GOTY and +100 awards with that format)
The whole pull towards 5v5 probably just started as an idea to lower the queue times together with the whole PvE aspect that was scrapped.
I think it would be weird to have 2 tanks being the bulkwark in tandem while the DPS has nothing to do but aquire PVE targets and shoot them and see the healers yawn themselves to death ( Ana would still out-dps Tracer though )
Then when PvE got axed they had to peddle along with just 1 tank per team. Which then required buffs because the pool of players wiling to tank dwindled. It is a balancing act and I do not think Blizzard has a scale
So tank balancing got worse and in exchange we got worse matchmaking quality for speed? Yikes
