I`ve changed my mind about 5v5 and 6v6
Now, I know that since launch at steam the "community" here is really toxic thats why I honestly just want to hear from people who also changed their mind abou this issue (doesnt matter in what direction)

But yeah.. I was a tank player back in Ow1 and I only started playing the game after 2-2-2 (I think my first hero release at that time was Sigma)
All in all I really really enjoyed it. For me at least, queue times were always good and the gameplay was just enjoyable from my perspective. The only downer was the content drought and raging teammates over voice chat from time to time.
I even liked the 2cp gamemode and thought the gameplay there is reeeally interessting because it rewarded a plan and execution massively. Also it could be quickly over at times when the teams were just not at the same level.

Initially in 5v5 and when it was anounced I was... I dont know, honestly.
Suprised is the right word maybe. But I was totally ok with it after a bit of thinking.
In my head queue times and visual clutter were the only real reasons for that change though. (besides marketing, wich is of course not a good reason.) I also enjoyed the launch and the first few seasons quite a bit even as the only tank.
After a while, when people noticed what is good though, (counterswaping) I was starting to have less and less fun with tank. I literally started playing support and dps more and more to a point where I was struggling to identify as a tank player wich I NEVER had problems with in ow1 even if I had sometimes a phase of supports or dps.
In this game I honestly just get anxious if I think about playing tank. Wich is a shame because I really would like to play tank. The other roles do not interesst me that much.

After alot of thinking and the last devblog where they aknowledged that tank gameplay is horrible (worse than it ever was in Ow1, even with double shield and Goats in my opinion) and they said they are working on tanks getting more tanky and talked about "time to kill" I just came to the realization that:
I *absolutely* dont agree with the sentiment that tanks need to get tankier for a better gameplay feeling. They are already mega tanky right now.
I think the problem lies in the core gameplay loop that you have as a tank in 5v5.
It is fundamentally different then in 6v6 where you had to set up the teamfight "your way" or the way your composition works and then synergize with others and plan ahead.

I dont feel good anymore about the 5v5 tank gameplay loop and for the first time since I started playing I actually deinstalled the game.

Now Im curious: How do you feel about my view and did your position on this also change? If yes why did it change? (Escpecially if you think 5v5 is the right way.)

Honestly I'm unsure. As much as I loved Overwatch 1 (being one of my favorite games of all time) I feel like the meta ends up being too annoying with 2 tanks. (E.g. double shield)

Also as a support player it ends up being way easier since I only have to heal 1 big guy instead of 2 ;3

I do agree with your point of it being a bad gameplay loop. If your tank dies it usually ends up being very difficult to win the fight.

Thanks for the input!
Yeah, I get what you said about supports. I would say as a support its just more of a different game then strictly a better or worse one.

About the double shield thing though:
I dont dont know, did you play alot at the end of Ow1? Content drought was heavy and community sentiment was not good because of that at that point but I played a ton back then and as I remember double shield wasnt super strong/opressive. Yeah, it was good when all did their job but I feel like after the Sigma and Orisa nerfs (Mainly shield health and cooldowns) the whole comp was only anoying when you had alot of aoe heals behind it, mainly Brigitte and Baptiste. (Correction: Orisa on its own was still too strong back then, I think she should not be an auto win against Rein for example, but because of pull she was)
How do you feel about that?

I at least think if we go back to the rule being that Aoe healing is less healing per single target then double shield should have been fine. For me it just makes no sense that Brig and Bap have more single target healing then Mercy for example, while also being able to heal multiple targets at once with more output then mercy ^^
(And this is just a thought if double shield would even be a thing anymore with the reworked Sigma)

ZZZZ...

Idiots from 6v6 that were really bad will complain ONLY about the double shield meta and dont even think beyond that.

If Blizzard continued working on OW1 and never thought about the abortion called OW2 they would have fixed double shield eventually.

Idiots from 5v5 only really have no input and probably never play tank think its just fine.

Rinse repeat...blizzard is too far gone to fix either.

Only way to win is to uninstall.

p.s.

just looked at the first reply and of course i was right. :)

durrrrrrrrrrrr...double shield.................zzzzzzzz
