Imagine getting penalized for leaving a quick play match

If people are still having to backfill a bunch of games even after they implemented this system seems it's really not doing much to prevent people from leaving. It will probably just lead too more people just afking in spawn and popping out to do some damage every once in a while to prevent them from getting kicked and penalized once they feel that they are being held in a game against their will with the threat of a penalty hanging over their head if they leave. Just seems like a net negative because unless Blizzard properly moderates this (they won't and they never do they rely on automated tools for moderation which means they can be exploited) people will just abuse this system to make everyone's life more miserable.

A penalty for leaving too many games is not going to stop those who genuinely want to leave the match (and multiple factors attribute to why someone would leave) because they will just take the penalty and do something else until the penalty expires and if they did get banned from leaving too many games then it's not really a loss when OW2 is just awful in every single department anyway so they can go ahead and play far better games. But if anything I'd rather take a leaver over someone who throws the match because that's just a 4v5 for the entire match compared to a leaver giving the opportunity for someone who backfills that actually wants to play making it a 5v5.

It's pretty much just a band-aid solution to leavers in QP when most of the fault is on Blizzard for intentionally designing a horrible, manipulative and unfair matchmaking system which is why a lot of players leave matches still. I doubt Blizzard will ever bother fixing the core problems at hand to make OW2 more enjoyable for their playerbase, as long as they're making money off of forcing win rates and tricking gullible low-skill/new players into buying skins because all because a skilled player made it look good.

on top of that the existence of cheaters

It was a joke. Someone who intentionally wants to misunderstood that, could mean "if you cannot commit to the game, then leave" (leave as in quit) and use it in court against you as evidence.

The argument about whether or not someone has experienced cheaters in matches is entirely anecdotal. Blizzard has banned over 250,000 cheaters that were actually caught cheating since the launch of OW2, and those are only ones we know of compared to how many that are still around.

You make it seem like there are tons of cheaters tho, I'm sure there are some but there are way more leavers

Leaving was never a bannable offense so they did it as much as they could now they can't woe is them, its 10 minutes its not a big deal. You can't do the time dont do the crime.

cheaters get caught and banned.

I didn't get that impression from their comment, they are just giving a PSA that there are still cheaters lingering around in matches which is one of the factors as to why a player or players would leave.

Well he said he saw one cheater, you can leave up to 4 matches in 20, so what does one cheater and leaving that one game have to do with anything? 1 leave will not cause the penalty.

♥♥♥♥ happens thats why you can leave 3 games and be ok.

I started playing since OW1 launch and I experienced cheaters in OW1 with 2k playtime. I play OW2 the first time since Steam launch, so not enough experience to comment on cheaters. I get accused a few times of cheating, especially when playing a hero like Widowmaker and having a really good found.

The problem is, identifying a cheater in Overwatch 2 is really really hard if its not that obvious. Because the nature of the game and builtin cheats (meaning hero abilities) its hard to spot a cheater if you don't know everything and analyze a specific player. If you play long enough, you will encounter cheaters, but don't identify them as such. But since OW2 has a phone number requirement, it's not as easy like in most free to play games to just create a new account, at least in my country.

Very true but what does cheating have to do with someone leaving 20% of their games? They are suggesting that 20% of their games have cheaters?

It's not a good argument for the leavers.
You guys are fast. :D

Once I left a game because my mother needed me right now. Another time I left, beecause 4 of my teammates were bots with 0 kills, no heal and nothing. I think they were some sort of AI bots capable of walking. These are good reasons to leave a game. But still, I never got once punished for leaving a Quick Play. One has to leave so many games, that I question why they play in the first place.

Thats 2 games you left tho, you would have to leave 20% of 20 games to get the penalty you know? You were still half the leaves away and then once you play 20 games without leaving it resets.

These leavers leave so much that they cant even reset the counter, thats a problem. For everyone.

Props on you for helping your mom, most gamers nowadays couldn't be bothered. I love my mom too <3

It depends, you could have really awful luck or just pure coincidence of coming across another cheater in the next game after that. I doubt it but it's possible, even if someone did leave the next couple of matches in a row not due to cheaters then there are other factors that encouraged the idea to leave. They can just play something else if the matches are becoming unenjoyable but I only imagine some people still enjoy this game and want to play it they just don't like the way Blizzard handles it which is a fair point to make.

Thems the rules now, rules change all the time. Adapt and become a team player or there are plenty of other games to give a chance. HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS! MILLLLLIONS!

I don't cry for leavers I never will. Heroes of the Storm saw to that.
