You do realize these articles released when Activision-Blizzard were very optimistic about Overwatch 2's launch right? Yeah, I know how to Google, lmao. I've seen these way back.
It's now pretty uncertain if they'll do it or not.
That's a no brainer. It's more about bringing the games to a platform that has a huge playerbase. It could boost the livelihood of Blizzard games that are coming, if they are coming. And if the games do well and Activision-Blizzard don't get greedy, we could get new updates that further improve the games. Of course, this is a double-edged sword. Such a move could leave Activision-Blizzard raking in a bit more money without having to push any more patches, but at that point I just want to have my games in one place. Even if it is... enabling Activision-Blizzard.
Moreover, we now have the Steam Deck for example, and it's been great to play Overwatch 2 on it. I imagine HotS is not so bad on controller and trackpad. I've played RTS on Steam Deck, and it's not so bad if you're playing casually.
you will miss a lot good games by doing this.
why i want my Battle net games to come here?? i prefer Battle net over this.
and most people do, people no more liking Steam as you think.
Valve is like mostly neutral. They're corpo too, just like Epic Games, EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Nintendo, and Activision-Blizzard. They all need profit, it's how they get it. Valve hasn't done anything to curb CS:GO skin gambling. But we don't see attempts to remove or lock out games from people's accounts like Sony, Ubisoft, and Nintendo. Or locking in established games in their platform like Epic Games Store did with Rocket League and others, or Ubisoft Connect, when customers just want more options and not be forced to choose only 1 platform.
But have you not seen the changes they've been pushing for Steam store and Steam Deck? There is greater support for Linux now and it's encouraging Apple to get back in the PC gaming market. They're also still trying to push VR, hence Half Life Alyx.
The Half Life and Portal games started out as tech demos too. Valve just seems more interested in tech pushing PC gaming.
You're forgetting we have great controller support, community templates, mod support via workshops, a chat system, cloud saving, and more. They pushed against NFT games. If they wanted to be greedy, they wouldn't have done this over the years and just only give us cloud saving.
But back to the discussion, you don't have to play Blizz games on Steam. You can always go back to the original launcher. There's nothing bad about that. This is about giving the games' customers OPTIONS.
And this is just me hoping to give back some life into these games, and to deliver fixes these games need. It's my copium.
Haha, yup, that's what I'm thinking too. But who knows, corpo greed goes a long way. OW2 got like 20k players on Steam. I've played dead online FPS games that have like 50 - 300. Despite the high amount of negative reviews, they could still be making a lot or a good amount of money.
They could be willing to ignore the negative reviews and continue to find ways to bleed their customers.
Uh, did you understood what I just said? That's why I said their greed could come a long way, as in it can continue to stay bad.
You gotta keep in mind though, Activision's culture changed Blizzard. It's the managment and higher-ups that don't seem to care. Whatever developers that were passionate about the IPs have left and the few that stayed could still be trying and failing due to pressures from the top. And then we have new developers who join in who are taught about the business side of game dev, which encourages stuff like microtransactions. Or the newer devs are changed to just build features the management demands due to company structure and their financial situation.
It's not just their fault though. It's also us and the whales, who blindly drop money, and customers who don't care about the politics and just want to have fun.
