Is it anything like old Overwatch?
I haven't played since around 2019/2020. Is it anything like back then / still fun?

The free-to-play freeloaders will tell you it is , but it’s a downgrade to OW1 in every single way
All the characters are still there and the controls are as good as ever, with some minor changes. See if you can find someone named McCree on the roster. Renamed for Blizzard internal personnel reasons. Additionally, Bastion lost the self-heal ability. There's a few more new characters but I haven't really researched too deep into their lore. You don't look for the hamster in a mech, he looks for you!
There were some game mode things that happened (5v5 instead of 6v6) plus some game mode things that didn't happen (PVE).
Otherwise it "feels" just like Overwatch used to.
Fun if you don't know about the history of the changes and non-changes.

While it is true that its not only still a very good game and its a bit better than ow1... Its still a empty shell of what could have been
I recomend watching the overwatch videos from The Act Man on YouTube, it explains very well how sh*t hit the fan

Kind of the same but the mm in QP is much worst than OW1.

The main difference is that you don't waste 80% of the match breaking tank shields. The action is faster-paced and has more of a deathmatch feel. Overall, the gameplay is a lot more fun, but most people miss the old loot box system. Ten dollars every couple of months for the Premium Battle Pass is fine imo

If you like egregious exploitive monetization systems then maybe.

Except it literally isn't.

Overwatch 1 was 6v6

Overwatch 1.2 is 5v5

It's mechanically almost the same game as Overwatch 1. There are new game modes and map types, some new heroes, but overall it feels exactly like back then. I also didn't play for years and that is my opinion about OW2. Feels like an update.

Since it has gone free to play Blizzard/Activision has made it SUPER GRINDY to get even the most bare bones generic skins and color palette changes. All the old skins you did not receive in loot boxes from OW1 are now horribly expensive. There's also a weirdly confusing two tier currency system in place and only one of them gets you anything worth buying (Hint: It's the currency that cost real money). The quality of quick play matches will make you wanna put a double barrel shotgun in your mouth and squeeze the trigger with your toes. Sure you can get into matching almost instantaneously now but with people throwing matches, deserting and not working together as a team it becomes an uncoordinated mess fast. Oh and also new characters and severely watered down story missions are locked behind paywalls and battle passes from now on. :srfrag::steamthumbsdown:
