It's easier to handle a single launcher, especially to play on Linux (or Steam Deck). The builtin compatibility layer called Proton makes this very simple. In fact, the reason I didn't play Overwatch 2 before Steam launch was that I needed to install a meta launcher that supports Battle.NET. Because Battle.NET is not officially available on Linux. Then I had to install Battle.NET and then I couldn't even use my Steam account to purchase stuff on that launcher.
Having the game on Steam makes everything easier for me.
