Yes, you will probably press 'Play' in Steam, which will install and open Battlenet, log you in, and then Battlenet will launch the game. You're required to have a Battle.net account, so this is a 99% chance of yes to your question.

This is the way most of these launcher specific games are when they come to Steam.

It's probably in-game login, no client required only account. Hopefully.

No. 99.9% sure that it will just launch the game as it is and it will prompt you to a login screen without installing anything else. And I'm sure that'll be like that because I remember that you could open it without Battle.net but you were required to log in with your Blizzard account.

You can launch Overwatch 2 without battle.net launcher currently, so I don't see why it would need the launcher. The steam client would make sure the game is up to date.

No. You just need to create a Bnet account if you have not already one and link it with your Steam account. When you press play on Steam the game will instantly launches with the Steamoverlay. This got confirmed by Mike Ybarra the President of Blizzard: https://twitter.com/qwik/status/1681720303389667328?s=46&t=aHfUm4aSFJMZil4on_kTzg
