Overwatch 2 is cross-platform what do you mean that an "Astronomical" amount of people are still playing on Blizzard. There are no servers for OW2 on Steam, it's still using Blizzard's servers. The only thing different with Blizzard OW2 and Steam OW2 is the Steam API dll hooked onto the game.exe, that's it. The API tracks the amount of users playing the game and other stats like Achievements and play hours. If there were an "Astronomical" amount of players playing on Blizzard then OP probably wouldn't even notice repeat players
