It's called backfilling.. Someone in that match left and the game tried to fill the match back up. You get extra exp for backfilling, but yeah, it's not a good feeling.

"And why does backfilling happen so often?" you may wonder

simple, because Blizzard does jack ____ about rage quitters/leavers.
It is a huge problem.

But go ahead and punish people that get false reported alot because teammates dont like you.

When you lose a game as a backfill, that loss is not counted on your statistics, but a win is counted. So it's a win-win scenario basically. If you join right before the end, that is free XP, exellent. If you join mid-game you can make a difference, maybe the one that left just sucked. Or maybe you are backfill early because someone was AFK.

I have won countless matches as backfill, and it's good to know that no matter how it turns out. You cannot lose basically.

Everyone will get it eventually, because the matchmaking system is intentionally designed to be biased.

The product of which is weaker players are placed into matches where they are carried, the weaker the player the more common it becomes..

While the stronger players are placed into matches either being expected to carry those weaker players or to be weighed down by them...

So what your experiencing OP, is the bias of the matchmaking system.

If your a stronger player, you have Finally gained enough understanding of the game to see how biased it is.

Alternatively if your a weaker player, your noticing the matchmaking system beginning to implode, due to there being an ever worsening shortage of strong players relitive to the number weak players.

Overwatch 2 doesn't have a matchmaking system, it has a marketing tool masquerading as a matchmaking system..

It's not intended to make "fair matches" its designed so that the people who are actually dumb enough to throw money at it, won't get mad and Uninstall over constant losses due to constant losses at the hands of their own ignorance of the game..
