Apparently running Uplay in offline mode can also help, but I haven't checked that yet - after all these are workarounds for an issue that is clearly on Ubisoft's side and wasn't caught in testing.
-- EDIT --
I spent 5 more hours debugging this trash. It seems to me that the game creates something resembling online lobby and then doesn't receive response from a server or something along these lines and just nulls out the pointer, cause even if you write additional check for that null and hack that in, the game will then crash on leaving the map in function nsOnlineMatch::StateLeaveLocalMatch. I've seen some claims as well on Ubisoft's forum that this issue happens in Deluxe Edition of the game, since I also can't join online mode, despite quadruple checking everything connection related to a point of disabling virtual network adapters for my VMs and shutting down firewall entirely together with Window's antivirus, running game and uPlay as administrator etc. just to make sure nothing stands in line of it achieving connection..
