I was floored to learn that Warhammer canon is officially dead and the Fantasy universe destroyed.
Nope. In all caps.
Especially since unlike l4d, it offers a lot in lore department.
They re-released it under the name "Age of Sigmar" with a hugely dumbed down ruleset and a 4 page long (literally) rule book. From what I hear it's got some major balance issues as a result of them trying to make it more like 40k. Lore wise, essentially the Warhammer world was overrun and destroyed by Chaos.
Yeah, the End Times literally destroys the world.
I just act like it didn't happen like the Star Wars prequels.
That's because it's literally set in the "end times". The apocalypse of warhammer fantasy. So essentially, a new chaos god is born, everyone dies, and the world blows up.
Since then games workshop has started "age of sigmar" which is a new universe/canon for warhammer fantasy, and have started the discontinuation of the old line of warhammer fantasy models.
Which is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shame, because I love the idea of brettonia.
And I've come to the conclusion that the majority of Warhammer fantasy "fans" (people with extensive knowledge of the lore), do not consider Age of Sigmar as part of Warhammer Fantasy.
But rather,
- Warhammer Fantasy ( ~500 - ~2520)
- Age of Sigmar
- Warhammer 40k
as three separate entities.
