Game looks great, are there customizable characters?

Sort of. There are different types of hats, which are kind of rare. You have different types of melee and ranged weapons. You have trinkets, though I am not sure if they are represented on your character graphically. Hats, weapons, and trinkets can have stats on them which modifier various things. Aside from that, I don't think there are any other ways to customize the stats or appearance of your character.

Pretty much this - as much as people refer to them by their class, each one is a named, specific character with their own backstory, like the ones in Borderlands. You're not just playing any old Witch Hunter, you're playing Victor Saltzpyre; a driven man who lost an eye to skaven and now seeks to bring the rogue Bright Wizard, Sienna Fuegonasus, to trial in Ubersreik.

If there is one thing I've seen in the Warhammer Fantasy universe it's that a nice hat counts for a lot. :P

I think there will be more of this later on. As for now they are probably more concearned with releasing the game. There are hats as people mention, also different quality on items looks different. But as a purely character customization, there is none as of now save for hats.

Trinkets are shown on character, but they are not very noticeable.

Not right now, but hopefully that's something they add in eventually.
