Kruber: handgun for ranged, sword shield - 2H hammer - 2H sword for melee
Bardin: handgun for ranged, axe and shield - 2H hammer for melee
Sienna: bolt staff for ranged, normal sword for melee
Kerillian: trueflight for ranged, sword and dagger - glaive for melee
Victor: repeater pistol for ranged, rapier - 2H sword for melee
For melee traits, Devastating Blow is great. It gives your weapons greater shove strength which can let any weapon stagger a stormvermin. Also nice for simply giving yourself enough space to swing without getting hit back. Bloodlust is also top, heal on kill outperforms heal on hit on pretty much every weapon. Really shines on weapons like the 2H sword and bolt staff where you can get multiple kills per attack.
Ranged traits, Hail of doom is pretty good on trueflight and bolt staff. Bloodlust is also good on the previously mentioned weapons. Victors repeater pistol is nice with Ammunition Holder and Rupture. The third trait is a lot more flexible, mostly I try to aim for two I like then just go with whatever ends up on the third slot.
All that being said; try every weapon. Many other weapons are effective and fun, like Bardin's drakefire pistols or grudge raker, or Kerillian's hagbane bow (which is great at killing the rat ogre but wow that friendly fire damage). So experiment with everything you find and enjoy yourself.
Wh
Rapier : kb / regrowth normal / off balance or bloodlust /dev blow / pick one (if you find yourself more confident with lust)
RP : targeeter / extra clip / rupture-ammo holder-hail of doom (keep in mind that targeeter is nearly an obligation for more effectivness and extra clip for one shooting everything in cata)
Kruber
2h hammer : bloodlust / dev blow / pick one (my favorite is Swift on charge)
2h sword : same as wh's rapier
Shield : blue one with kb/regrowth or exotic with regrowth normal / pommel / dev blow is really nice (can swap dev blow to extra stamina or Swift on normal as you wish)
Handgun : mastercraft / pick one / pick one (tbh i use mc/ammo holder/skull and its a deadly thing)
Blunderbuss : mastercraft / bloodlust / scavenger or mastercraft / ammo holder / bloodlust or mastercraft / scavenger / targeeter
Bardin :
Nearly the same as kruber (swap 2h sword by 2h axe but remove pick one by extra stamina)
Grugde : ammo holder / mastercraft / pick one (i love rupture on it)
Drakk : regrowth / hail of doom / pick one
Kerrilian
Sword and dagger : Red one or make exotic with same traits (regrowth will be 5 instead of 10) or bloodlust / dev blow / pick one
Dual daggers : kb / backstabbery / regrowth (normal or charge)
Glaive : bloodlust / dev blow / extra stamina
Trueflight : i love mine with regrowth / scavenger / hail of doom (but can swap to regrowth / scavenger / ammo holder)
Hagbane : bloodlust / ammo holder / scavenger or hail of doom / ammo holder / scavenger
Sienna
Bolt : bloodlust / hail of doom / inspi shot
Beam : regrowth / stability / mastercraft or regrowth / mastercraft / hail of doom
Regular sword : vent on charge / dev blow / pommel or bloodlust / dev blow / vent on charge
Mace (for stand mostly) : hkb / dev blow /pommel
Its my personnal list ofc.
HKB, Heroic Killing Blow, 1-3% chance on charged attack to instantly kill any enemy (including rat ogre).
Would using both Bloodlust and Regrowth be bad?
If you go to verminguide.com it has a trait picker that shows possible trait combinations so you can check if a desired combination is possible on a weapon. I believe it's still up to date.
You can only have both heal traits on xbow (Dwarf and wh) but not on the volley.
Btw, using bloodlust instead of Regrowth on melee weapon mean you cant have some traits as Berserk, killing blow, scavenger.. In map that's not a real big deal, but in stand i dont advise you to use bloodlust on your melee weapons or even distance ones (except if you are the Wizard where bloodlust is insane). Reason ? The Bw will do around 80% of the kill with 1 shot for kill (or 2) when the melee will need 3 to 4 so you will dont heal that much. And using bloodlust dont allow you to have hkb, and it's a vital trait in stand so... As you can have hkb (and kb) with regrowth go for that.
As said above, check verminguide. And keep in mind that % are not the same on weapons. For example bloodlust is up to 10% for melee where its 8% for ranged.
For regrowth its the same and even more : fast melee weapons (dual daggers, rapier...) its 5%, "slow" its 10% (shields, 2h hammer or axe, sword...) and for distance its up to 12% (like the trueflight). So keep that in mind when you roll your traits.
Example : 2h hammer.
>10% bloodlust
>10% regrowth
You can think regrowth can be better for same % because you will hit more than killing, but the normal attack of the hammer is mono-target and you will more use the charge attack for infinite target, and with hammer the first rat hit its nearly an one shot so bloodlust is more viable with this weapon. In other hand shields with hammer do less dmg but hit 4 targets with the normal strike, so regrowth is better than bloodlust.
Tl;Dr : choose your traits According to your weapons :)
Side note : the dual daggers get a charge regrowth up to 10% (where most only have 3%) keep that in mind too.
