Handgun is specialized in the role of long range anti-special.

Repeating Handgun is a more versatile role. It can still kill specials at mid to long range, especially with targeteer, but not as effectively as the Handgun. It makes up for this with the damage against Ogre, Stormvermin, and hordes, especially with Haste.

IT'S PANDAMONIUM. :chug:

If a handgun doesn't have the Master Crafted trait then it's just way too slow. However, if you're one to play with bots, they seem to use handguns more effeciently than they use any other ranged weapon. The repeater will chew through ammo when you actually use it, but that's worth it if you've landed most of your shots and suddenly an ogre is dead from full hp.

While I'm not going to disagree with how good the bots are with one-shot weapons, Kruber's bot is pretty good with a repeater. He'll usually pick off specials if he needs to with several well placed shots and occasionally I'll see him do a power attack on a stormvermin, then switch over to the repeater while backing away to finish it off by shooting it in the head.

Good responses so far. Let's narrow it down. Cataclysm, Kruber player- handgun or repeater?

Handgun, absolutely. His ability to instantly one shot the most damaging specials (globadier & assassin) is more valuable than his ability to stunlock a stormvermin or deal slightly higher damage to an ogre before he inevitably switches to melee as bots always do when fighting one.

Actually, I just realized that you said *player* and not bot. For the bot, I'd say handgun 100% since they're cheating, aimbotting scumbags that can do 180 flick-headshots all day every day. For a human player, a handgun is objectively superior for killing globadiers and assassins, but for packmasters and gunners, it's a bit of a toss-up since you need to land headshots on those for a 1 hit kill. The repeater can kill those enemies with a burst in less time than it would take to reload and fire the handgun a second time. Then of course, you have ogre damage to consider, which is tremendous and consistent compared to say a handgun with hawkeye, which does massive per-shot damage but needs headshots and quick reloads to keep up dps.

Repeater is safer, handgun takes more skill to have the same effect against armor and ogre.
